IQNA – The failure of the main prayer room’s emergency exit door at the Al Noor Mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand, did not contribute to the number of lives lost in the massacre, a survivor said. Deputy Chief Coroner Brigitte Windley is hearing evidence on the emergency exit door in Al Noor Mosque's main prayer room failing to open during the shooting. When the shooting began at the mosque, worshippers rushed towards the emergency exit and some attempted to unlock the door, but it would not open. "I believe if more people were outside they would be shot outside, it would be easier for him to shoot more people outside," Al-Nobani said, through a translator. Al Noor Mosque was the terrorist's first target.

The entire team behind Keep New Zealand Beautiful has resigned, warning the organisation will likely fold in the coming weeks. The charity – that coined the phrase "Be a Tidy Kiwi" – has been legislatively mandated to promote litter control since 1979. Its chief executive Heather Saunderson has now accused the current and former government of bullying and under-funding the organisation. "My entire team resigned in solidarity with me so it's obviously been a situation where there has been systematic bullying, both at an individual and organisational level," she told RNZ. A spokesperson for the environment minister said the ministry was speaking to the charity's board and the minister, Penny Simmonds, was across the situation.

Since 2006, Mid Dome Wilding Trees Charitable Trust has worked to cull rogue pines from over 40,000 ha of land east of the Mataura River. Trust chairperson Ali Ballantine told Environment Southland on Friday that her group was beginning to feel the pinch. The trust believed the council had historic responsibility for the issue due to the Catchment Board instigating plantings at Mid Dome between the 1960s and 1980s. The trust's review of the Mid Dome Wilding Tree Strategy last year showed approximately $20 million had been spent to date.

Indeed, ask the older people and they will tell you how the original Whakatohea settlement on the 1940s was hijacked by an elite and their lawyers – a woeful tale. So, when the trust board has its AGM none of the votes taken have any standing, the “beneficiaries” have no power whatsoever. “On the 28th.” So, the Whakatohea settlement bill is back in parliament and going to be passed on the anniversary of our Treaty of Waitangi signing in Opotiki (27 and 28 May 1840). My father was David Huia Herewini who was a former Whakatohea Maori Trust Board member and Whakatohea Fisheries Advisory Trustee. It purports to bind individuals and groups of Whakatohea into supporting the Bill and binding the settlement trust into suppressing opposition.

University of Otago student Sophia Crestani, 19, died during a stairwell pile up at an overcrowded flat party at The Manor in October, 2019. During cross examination, Sophia's father Bede Crestani said it appeared the tenants wanted to protect their gear and the flat, not their guests. Anticipation is building as it gets closer and closer to the start of Stuff’s 6pm bulletin, especially as its new name and logo has just been revealed. It’s going to be an exciting new bulletin while still retaining Three’s unique touch and approach. “Having Sam Hayes remain as the face and lead of ThreeNews, with reporting from so many fantastic former-Newshub journalists alongside Stuff’s large multimedia team, this new bulletin is going to be superb, I can feel it. “We are producing something that will be both familiar and fresh, a great marriage of the Three brand and Stuff’s live and lively news ethos,” she says. “Our teams have worked together on the look and feel of the show, the set and the brand, bringing together a cohesive new bulletin that we can’t wait to share with the rest of Aotearoa.”
