Today I can announce that the Labour Government will significantly expand childcare assistance to New Zealand families. From April we will lift the household income thresholds on our Childcare Assistance subsidies for those with children under 5 in early childhood education, and aged 5 to 13 at an approved before or after school and holiday programme. Our changes will mean 54 per cent of all New Zealand families with children will now be eligible for subsidised childcare assistance. All families earning up to $180,000 with childcare costs are eligible. From RNZ:Social Development Minister Carmel Sepuloni said it was “good to see National finally recognising the importance of childcare assistance”.

By Tara Shaskey, Open Justice reporter ofPhoto: NZ Herald / Tara ShaskeyA Mongrel Mob president has been sentenced to at least 10 and-a-half years in jail for the murder of a rival gang prospect in an unexpected and brutal slaying. More than a dozen patched Mongrel Mob members, some from out of town, turned up to show their support for the gang boss. Given Marshall's brother's connection to the Mongrel Mob, Marshall had been around the gang before without any trouble and it was believed this encounter would be no different. Laupama and the teenage boy, both members of the Mongrel Mob at the time of Marshall's death, were also charged with his murder. While his case is still moving through the court, Laupama was sentenced to five months of home detention in December.

Looking to next week's game in Fiji, he said several of the team had played there before. "It's only round two, we're not going to get disheartened, we still want to keep growing and keep getting better. Coach Clarke Dermody said the Crusaders were a smart team, and their defensive pictures were changing all the time. We just weren't accurate tonight around our set-piece, the lineout and, giving up ball on attack in the right areas of the pitch, you see how dangerous the Crusaders are."

China's private Caixin service sector PMI reported a good expansion in February, a bounce-back from January and confirming the official measure. The expansion in the services sector was even stronger in India in February, out-shining both the US and China. In Canada they get a central bank rate review this week, currently at 4.50% and likely to rise. And tomorrow, their central bank will almost certainly raise their policy rate again, going from 3.35% currently to 3.60%. Pushback forces are growing, but until inflation looks like it is beaten, they are unlikely to sway the RBA.

NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo has told disgruntled clubs to get used to players being removed from the field for head injury assessments, making no apologies for a range of controversial decisions from the independent doctors. While Abdo wouldn’t comment on specific events from the opening round, including contentious decisions to haul Kalyn Ponga, Kotoni Staggs, Jacob Kiraz and Sebastian Kris from the field, the NRL boss was adamant the system was here to stay. “We’re not going to make decisions based on who is winning or losing or who needs to stay on the field for a team,” Abdo told the Herald at the Dolphins’ first game at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday. “These decisions on head injury assessments are going to be made on a players’ wellbeing regardless of the team, regardless of the score, regardless of the player. We have a policy, and that policy is about making sure we provide the safest possible environment for the players to play our sport.

When National finally released their 3 Water’s policy, the surprise was how little detail there was. It felt rushed as if National thought there was a Poll in the field and rushed out some uncosted user pays water policy that just took a swipe at Co-governance. The problems was once National’s full user pays costs came out, the shock from many National supporter at what they will now be paying will be substantial. National rushed out policy and the sting of the real cost will burn voters. TDB Recommends NewzEngine.comThe problem for National is that after all the shit they’ve whipped up in fear of Labour’s cross subsidy model, the reality is National’s user pays method will cost vastly more.
