The case of Mr AMr A had been on methadone as part of opioid substitution treatment for the past 30 years. Between August 7 and 14, 2021, Mr A was discharged from the programme involuntarily, and his access to methadone cut off. Six weeks later, he died from "mixed dose toxicity", with the drugs in his system including methadone, to which he would have decreased tolerance due to the withdrawal. When Ms A declined, HNZ began to reduce her dose of methadone, supposedly to reduce her risk of an overdose. It assured the commissioner that methadone dispensing was "treated with utmost seriousness" and until this event it had maintained an eight-year record of no methadone dispensing errors.

A destroyed car stands amid debris from a damaged residential building in Beirut, Lebanon as Israel announced the launch of strikes on the nation. Israel also launched more strikes against Iran. But in a video posted on Sunday, Trump vowed military strikes on Iran will continue until "all our objectives are achieved" without providing specifics. He said the assault had so far wiped out Iran's military command and destroyed nine Iranian navy ships and a naval building. Global air travel was also heavily disrupted as continued air strikes kept major Middle Eastern airports closed, including Dubai — the world's busiest international hub — in one of the biggest aviation interruptions in recent years.

Just Zilch said it can’t comment on individual volunteers but it was important to properly address concerns. A Just Zilch volunteer, who RNZ has agreed not to name because of worries they would lose their position at the charity, said Bell hadn’t caused problems with his behaviour there. They said young people would also volunteer at Just Zilch and work at its Featherston St location, in central Palmerston North, at the same time as Bell. “Basically, every day I do a shift the Army comes up in conversation.”Another former volunteer told RNZ they wouldn’t feel comfortable with Bell’s presence. Open Justice reported that Bell was no longer working for the Army by the time he was sentenced.

Khamenei’s killing “could give rise to significant rivalries within the circles of power between the Revolutionary Guards and the civilian leadership,” she said, “But for now, they are all working together to keep the system in place”. “The alternative is a takeover by the Pasdaran,” the country’s ideological army, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Razoux said. “In reality, the rebalancing of power in favour of the Revolutionary Guards has already happened” in recent years, Nencini said. “But a transition towards a more militarised regime under their leadership is a possibility – a more conventional military regime, without the current Shiite religious framework. Razoux said the Iranian army “may hold one of the keys, and its positioning will be crucial – in relation to the population, the leadership and the Guards alike”.

It is still early days in terms of market reaction and the conflict, so assessing the possible fallout is inherently speculative. As at 5pm, Brent crude (the benchmark for local pump prices) was up 5.8% from the closing price on Friday (at US$77.08). “It’s early days; the Kiwi/US is at about 59.5c, you could argue it’s in the trading range,” Eckhold said. So far, the market reaction had been relatively calm, Eckhold said.

Thousands followed the newly crowned NZ Open champion uphill and down as he weaved his way to a memorable win across four days of spellbinding golf.
