We have no preferences [about who they play]; every team is a good team once you get to the playoffs. Photo: RNZ / Marika KhabaziThe Media Freedom Committee has called Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown's exclusion of certain media outlets from his budget speech on Thursday "unacceptable". Stuff reported amongst those allowed in were "business leaders, former politicians and former rugby league coach Sir Graham Lowe". A response from the mayor's office said the announcement was "not a press conference" and contents of the meeting were scheduled to be distributed via social media following the event. "taff and guests were disappointed with the conduct of some media who forced their way into the event and disrupted the mayors speech." Simpson said selling shareholding was not just a short-term fix, and would save the council $100 million a year in debt interest.

Continuity of selection means that the Highlanders have a more settled look to the side named to take on the Blues at Eden Park in Friday's DHL Super Rugby Pacific regular-season finale. Dermody said Gregory's high work rate would be part of the task in front of all the side to lift their efforts at Eden Park to ensure their playoff berth. "They are a team that feasts on that [turnover ball] – not just Mark Telea, but they're a dangerous team all over. That has been helped by a request for flanker Shannon Frizell to be exempted from his All Blacks' rest week. Blues v Highlanders: Friday 2 June, 7.05pm NZT, Eden Park.
