An armed group has taken control of and shut down Libya’s Al-Zawiya refinery and two oil complexes, demanding unpaid salaries and other benefits, Libya media report. The armed group, the Petroleum Facilities Guard (PFG), said in a Tuesday video statement that the refinery operators have five days to comply with their requests or face more closures from other PFG members at key facilities around Libya. The Mellitah and Misrata oil complexes have also been shut down by the PFG. According to the Libyan National Oil Company (NOC), as of last year, the total capacity of all refineries in Libya is around 380,000 barrels per day. Tripoli, Libya – Imad Al-Tarablusi, Minister of Interior appointed to the Interim Government of National Unity, confirmed today that all those proven to be involved in the Abu Salim massacre will face justice. Environmental risk categoriesThe regulations introduce a three-tier system for environmental permits based on the environmental risk each application poses. A magistrate has refused murder suspect Roderick Cassar’s request to suspend the compilation of evidence until his constitutional challenge to the femicide law is settled. Cassar is accused of murdering his estranged wife Bernice Cassar in what was the first case falling within the parameters of a new femicide law. Cassar is challenging the femicide law in the constitutional court, claiming it is discriminatory and in breach of his human rights. However, Magistrate Anne Marie Thake ruled on Wednesday against Cassar’s request to stay criminal proceedings until the constitutional court reaches its conclusion. She added that there was no decision yet by the constitutional court to stop the criminal proceedings against Cassar.

A Swiss court has acquitted the authors of a report into the sale of smuggled Libyan oil stored in Malta government fuel tanks, which investigation MaltaToday formed part of. The smuggled fuel from Libya was stored in tanks it had leased from Enemed between 2014 and 2015. Both men are also facing charges in Malta in connection with the Operation Dirty Oil smuggling investigation. Although having implications for Malta, namely as to how smuggled fuel oil from Libya was cleared by Customs and found itself stored inside Enemed fuel tanks, no police investigation has ever been launched into the case. Oceano Blu Trading was administered by the Sicilian Nicola Orazio Romeo, who is also indicted over fuel smuggling in Sicily.

She also said that there was an agreement to export more Egyptian engineering products to the Libyan market shortly and that this visit marked the beginning of a wider and deeper cooperation.
