CAIRO – 15 December 2022: Senator Lindsey Graham welcomed President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi visit to the United States, praising the strong relations between Cairo and Washington, According to Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady. Graham expressed his aspiration to strengthen and develop the strategic partnership that binds the two countries. Sisi expressed Egypt's appreciation for the ‘distinguished relations’ that extend over decades between the two friendly countries, indicating Egypt's keenness to continue developing and strengthen this partnership in various fields of joint cooperation. According to Rady, the meeting witnessed ways to enhance bilateral relations in a number of fields, in addition to discussing regional developments, including the situation in Syria, Libya and Yemen. Sisi and Graham also discussed the ongoing efforts to revive the peace process in the Middle East, where President Sisi indicated that efforts to settle the Palestinian-Israeli conflict must be carried out in accordance with the constants of international references, the two-state solution and the Arab peace initiative.
The Presidential Council has demanded a clarification from Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah on the extradition of Libyan Abu Ajila Al-Marimi to the US after the latter appeared before an American judiciary on Tuesday. The PC referred a complaint submitted by the family Al-Marimi, to the Attorney General and ordered the necessary measures to be put in place. It also called on the Ministry of Justice, in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to appoint a defence committee for the Al-Marimi, and to follow up on the matter with the American authorities.
The next day, Mas'ud appeared at a federal court in Washington and was charged with an act of international terrorism. Mr Dbeibah's comments came a day after Libya's chief public prosecutor, Saddiq Al-Sour, announced there would be an investigation into Mas'ud's extradition following a complaint from the suspect's family. CAIRO – 15 December 2022: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met Thursday with President of the Libyan Presidential Council (LPC) Mohamed al Manfi, said Presidential spokesperson Bassam Rady. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the proceedings of third and last day of the Washington-hosted US-Africa Leaders Summit, added the spokesperson. Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said the meeting covered the latest developments on the Libyan territories. Rady said that the meeting witnessed an agreement and an affirmation on the depth of strategic relations between Egypt and the US. The two sides asserted the importance of intensifying cooperation and coordination between the two countries regarding a set of international issues and files.

Abu Agila Mohamed Masud Masud Jeir al Marimi, a Libyan national, is in custody in the United States after proceedings were launched in 2020 to try him for the deaths of the 169 U.S. citizens on the plane. Dbeibé has ordered Thursday to assign a law firm and facilitate the travel of the family of the implicated to the United States. The Libyan unity prime minister explained that, following his classification as a terrorist and after an arrest warrant was issued against him, it was the duty of the internationally recognized authorities to extradite him in order to "cleanse" the country of terrorism, as reported by 'The Libya Observer'. According to the profile published at the time by the Justice Department, the defendant worked for Libyan Intelligence, including as a technical expert in the construction of explosive devices from approximately 1973 to 2011.
TRIPOLI : Libya's Prime Minister Abdulhamid al-Dbeibah indirectly acknowledged on Thursday that his administration had been involved in the transfer of a Lockerbie bombing suspect to the United States last week. Dbeibah and his Government of National Unity (GNU) had not yet commented on the detention of Abu Agila Mohammad Mas'ud Kheir Al-Marimi or his transfer to the United States, which has prompted anger in Libya. He was not formally charged by the United States until 2020, when it uncovered fresh evidence revealing he had apparently confessed his crimes to a Libyan law enforcement official. On Sunday the United States said he was in U.S. custody. Libya, where control over government is disputed, has no extradition treaty with the United States and the Attorney General has opened an investigation into the circumstances of Mas'ud's detention and transfer.
The Senate of Pakistan and Libya’s House of Representatives on Wednesday agreed to constitute a coordination committee on both sides in order to fix modalities, ensure implementation of memorandums of understanding (MoUs) signed in different areas, and further cement parliamentary relations between the two countries. The delegation, led by Secretary General of the Parliament of Libya Abdualla Almasri Mussa, held a meeting in Islamabad at the Parliament House with Senate Secretary Qasim Samad Khan. According to a statement by the Libyan Parliament, the MoUs aim to “establish a mechanism to develop joint parliamentary work and create channels for cooperation and exchange of experiences to reach a unified vision at all levels.”
The nephew of Abu Agila Masoud Al-Marimi, a former Libyan intelligence operative accused of being involved in the 1988 Lockerbie bombing, has publicly spoken out about the circumstance surrounding his uncle’s recent extradition to the United States. He said both the daughter and wife of Abu Agila Masoud were assaulted by the armed group as both women attempted to stop men from taking him away. Appearing visibly emotional, Abdelmonem Al-Marimi described the abduction of his uncle as “ugly” and “inhumane”, adding that the incident traumatized children living in the family’s house. Abdelmonem Al-Marimi said that the family learned about Abu Agila extradition to the U.S. through the media. Abdelmonem Al-Marimi said his uncle’s extradition to the U.S. will “open the door for blackmailing Libya” as the Lockerbie bombing case is widely considered closed following the conviction of Abdelbaset Al-Megrahi.
