(@FahadShabbir)TRIPOLI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Jun, 2023 ) :-- The Libyan Foreign Ministry on Thursday demanded actions by Swedish authorities against the burning of the Muslim holy book Quran by protesters in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. "The State of Libya condemns the burning of a copy of the holy Quran by an extremist outside the central mosque in Sweden's Stockholm after the prayer of Eid Al-Adha holiday," the ministry said in a statement. "Such acts clearly contradict international efforts to spread tolerance and moderation and denounce extremism," it said, demanding clear actions by Swedish authorities against those who commit such acts. On Wednesday, a person, reportedly an Iraqi immigrant living in Sweden, burned a copy of the Quran outside the central mosque of Stockholm. In similar incidents in January, Rasmus Paludan, the leader of the Danish far-right political party Hard Line, burned a copy of the Quran in front of the Turkish embassy in Stockholm, and repeated the move in front of a mosque in Denmark's capital Copenhagen a week later.

Tensions between the rival governments in Libya are on the rise once more, amid new disputes over oil revenues and a drone strike on Wagner facilities. The eastern House of Representatives (HoR) discussed actions on the oil industry this week. Libya Oil and Gas Minister Mohamed Oun expressed his concerns over the threats. Following Oun’s comments, the GNU on June 29 claimed to have carried out a drone strike on a site used by Russian mercenaries, the Wagner Group. The strike on Wagner may have been opportunistic, following the recent insurrection in Russia.

The migrant rescue ship Ocean Viking rescued 86 people off the coast of Libya on Tuesday as their vessel foundered while trying to reach Europe, its French-based operator said. “The rescued, mainly from Gambia and Senegal, were suffering from dehydration, exhaustion and fuel burns,” a spokesman for the charity told AFP. He added that most of the migrants were minors, trying to cross the Mediterranean on their own, without family. According to the Italian interior ministry, around 90,000 migrants have arrived by sea so far this year. The UN’s International Organization for Migration estimates that 1,724 migrants had disappeared trying to cross the Mediterranean to Europe so far this year, up from 1,417 last year.

Instead of facing the Italian army directly, they waged rather small battles, mostly at night time. Facing a ghost enemy fighting on horseback, the Italian army started to use unheard of methods of war, scoring many firsts. For instance, Italy was the first country to use air war and Libya became the first country to be bombed from the air. This forced General Graziani to revert to using collective punishment against entire civilian communities by forcing them into concentration camps across Eastern Libya. New Libya, however, has forgotten the mourning day, while fascist concentrations camps are never really mentioned outside academic circles.

Malta registered a significant increase in electricity generation from renewable energy sources, with over 80,730 homes powered by clean energy in 2022. According to the Energy Ministry, the increased generation of clean energy resulted in a reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by over 134,700 tonnes. The ministry said that, by the end of 2021, Malta produced 12.15% of its energy requirements from renewable sources. Energy minister Miriam Dalli noted that these figures coincide with the European Commission’s announcement confirming the EU support package for the implementation of Malta’s green energy plans. The ministry added that this news comes after the announcement of two grid-scale battery energy storage systems and a memorandum of understanding with Libya for exploring green energy interconnections.

In Libya, Wagner troops are supporting the powerful militia leader Haftar in the east of the country. Russia has never officially admitted it, but the existence of Wagner mercenaries in Libya is an open secret. Wagner mercenaries are said to have supported him – as snipers, operating the artillery and anti-aircraft. According to Lacher, Wagner pilots flew fighter jets that were stationed in central Libya. For this reason alone, Moscow will continue to take care of the Wagner mercenaries in Libya in the future.
