MONROVIA – Justice in Chamber, Associate Justice Sie-A-Nyene Youh has issued a temporary stay order on the processes leading the December 8 special senatorial elections. Associate Justice Youh’s over the weekend issued an Alternative Writ of Mandamus petitioned by the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP). The CPP was denied their first petition for a Writ of Mandamus by Associate Justice Youh. At the same time, Associate Justice Youh has order the NEC not to put a halt to all actions pertaining to the publishing of names candidates for the December 8 elections. The NEC has therefore been cited to a conference with the Justice in Chambers next Wednesday at 9:00am.

Monrovia – One of Liberia’s notorious armed robber, Kesselle Mulbah has finally been forwarded to court by the Liberia National Police(LNP). Defendant Mulbah was forwarded to the Monrovia City Court on Thursday morningafter weeks of stay in police custody. He was taken to court to face prosecution for the alleged commission of the crimes of Criminal Conspiracy, Armed Robbery, and Murder. The investigation also established that defendant Mulbah and others to be identified were armed with cutlasses, single barrel guns, and other deadly weapons. Police investigation also added that while the Anti-Robbery Unit/CSD bravo team was in pursuit of defendant Mulbah, he (defendant Mulbah) opened fire at the agents of the Anti-Robnery squad, at which time the team also returned fire, leaving defendant Mulbah seriuouly injured from bullet wound.

Capitol Hill, Monrovia – Following months of delay, the House of Representatives has approved the national budget for fiscal year 2020/2021 in the tune of US$570.1 million at an exchange rate of L$199 to US$1. The House’s version was increased by US$34.6 million as compared to the draft budget as submitted by President George Weah in the amount of US$535.4 million in July of this year. Meanwhile, the House also endorsed several fiscal measures outlined by the Joint Committee in its report. The committee, among other things, called for budgetary appropriation for the Liberia Revenue Authority to be paid immediately upon collection of revenue by the budgetary ratio 5% of revenue collection until its budgetary ceiling is realized in accordance with the Act creating the Liberia Revenue Authority. The budget has now been forwarded to the Senate for concurrence, and when approved, will be sent to the President for signature.

Monrovia – The National Health Workers’ Union of Liberia(NAHWUL) has suspended its sit-home-strike action against the Government of Liberia, and ordered all its members to return to work within 24 hours. NAHWUL issued the ordered on Thursday at a news conference held at the union’s national headquarters in Paynesville, outside Monrovia. ” The United Nations Resident Coordinator to Liberia and NAHWUL have been involved in series of discussion and have reached a consensus on the issues raised by the union(NAHWUL),” Dearzrua said. Dearzrua explained that the decision was reached based on a petition that was filed to the US Embassy, European Union and the United Nations Office near Monrovia. He said based on the petition, the United Nations Resident Coordinator to Liberia, and other prominent people residing both in Liberia and abroad intervened in negotiating with the union to ease the situation.

Monrovia – More than one thousand Catholic School Teachers and Support staff have laid down their chalks in demand of three months arrears and benefits owed them by the (CES). According to the Secretary General of the Media Committee of the Association of Catholic Teachers Incorporated E. Klorteh Seator, they have called for meeting with the Catholic Educational Secretariat to address their situation but to no avail. Mr. Seator explained that they remain unbinding in their quest adding that their decisions are irreversible until all of their five counts are fully addressed. Explaining further he stressed that their new decision is due to what he claimed as bad labor practices and disrespect that continue to derail the interest of the teachers and support of the Archdiocese of Monrovia. Meanwhile, when contacted the head Father Andrew Varfee of the Catholic Educational Secretariat said that they are working to address the issue but the aggrieved teachers are yet to listen to them something the Teachers Secretary-General on Media Committee termed as false and misleading.

The decision was made after the holding of a successful process which saw Mr. Wiah winning on white ballot. Wiah earned a Master Degree In Environmental Science and also got a Bachelor Degree in Nursing with Cum laude from the United Methodist University. In 2018 he was the assistant director for expanded programme on immunization and in 2011-2018: Director for Community Health Department, Sinoe County Health Team. He hails from central Jedepo, Jedepo Statutory District and also worked.

We fear that the country is gradually slipping into anarchy and therefore call on the government and international community particularly the Embassy of the United States of America, the European Union and other international partners to intervene,”.
