Paynesville – Five robbers were early Thursday morning gunned down by officers of the Anti-Robbery Unit of the Liberia National Police while in an arm robbery attempt at the Fresh Frozen Food Liberia cold storage in the Redlight Market. Police Inspector General Col. Patrick Sudue said a huge sum of money was discovered in a rice bag at the scene. Two of the robbers who earlier opened fire escaped when police arrived at the scene along with a vehicle that parked there, Police Inspector General told reporters Thursday. Inspector Sudue, however, confirmed the two single barrels and a bag filled with Liberian Dollars, but did not mention seeing an AK47. Meanwhile, Inspector Sudue is calling for more support to enable the police effectively carryout it’s operations in combating crimes across the country.

MenjorFresh Frozen Food Store, a cold storage located in the commercial hub of Red Light, attracted hundreds of onlookers on May 20, 2021 when authorities of the Liberian National Police (LNP) narrated the horrific encounter they had with five armed men which, they said, were armed robbers. The Police boss at the same time displayed a video footage in which one of the alleged armed robbers was seen in full Police uniform in upper Caldwell making an attempt to break into a facility said to be hosting Chinese nationals involved in the sale of sand. A travelling bag filled with Liberian Dollar banknotes was opened by Sudue, identifying the money as some of what the deceased armed robbers wanted to have made away with. Other items found and reported to the media were two single barrel guns and pistols with ammunition beside the corpses of the alleged armed robbers. “We need more support so we can be more vigilant,” Sudue stressed, adding that one of his officers is nursing a bullet wound sustained from one of the alleged armed robbers a few weeks ago.
