The launch will include the introduction of mobile GSM services by the Corporation and President Weah will on Tuesday make the first voice call on the new network (022). The LTC management dispelled the misconception that the LTC mobile will be playing the role of a regulator and the same time a player since it’s government owned. The Liberia Telecommunications Corporation (LTC) was established in 1973 as the sole fixed line telephone operator in Liberia. In 2020, the 2007 Act was amended to ensure that the LTC provide full scale mobile network operations in Liberia.

MONROVIA – President George Weah has launched the Recovery of Economic Activity for Liberian Informal Sector Employment Project (REALISE) which is intended to empower the ordinary people of Liberia. The REALISE Project will promote economic activities for a total of about 19,000 Liberians in the Greater Monrovia area. Speaking at the launch of the project, President Weah emphasized that a major focus of the developmental agenda of his administration is economic empowerment. Nimba County ─ Hundreds of residents of three communities in Nimba County have begun benefiting from a weeklong free medical outreach program launched by ArcelorMittal Liberia in conjunction with the Nimba County Health Team. It is important to note that at no point in time did we completely run out of Jet Fuel. Neither Air France nor any other airline complained about substandard petroleum products from Conex. On January 10th, 2022, Conex Energy Liberia sent an email to all concerned authorities recalling NOTAM, which expires on January 15th, 2022. MONROVIA – Two staff of ArcelorMittal died yesterday when a rail equipment carrying maintenance crew collided with loaded wagons stationed on the rail line. FrontPageAfrica gathered that one of the staff was pronounced dead on arrival upon the evacuation to a medical facility while the other died during surgery. “It is with the deepest sadness that ArcelorMittal Liberia announces that two of its committed staff have succumbed to their injuries after being medically evacuated by helicopter to hospital,” the company stated. Following that incident, ArcelorMittal issued a press statement revealing that its locomotives were being targeted by criminal activities that resulted in the accident. The company stated that the criminals were targeting the tarpaulins covering the iron ore wagons to keep out moisture from the iron ore.

President President George Weah has returned home following successful participation in an Extraordinary Summit of the Authority of Heads of State and Governments of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS. The one-day Summit held Sunday, January 9, 2022, in Accra, Ghana reviewed issues confronting sub-regional peace and security, particularly the political crisis in Mali. The ECOWAS Authority says it abhors the new transitional framework by the Military in Mali to hold presidential elections by the end of December 2026, noting. Meanwhile, the Authority has announced additional economic and financial sanctions, consonant with its deliberations at its Sixtieth Ordinary Session held on 12 December 2021 in Abuja, Nigeria. The President Pro-Tempore of the Liberian Senate Albert Chie has called on his colleagues to ratify untouched bills, which are lingering in Committee rooms. Senator Chie at the same time said that the issue of road rehabilitation along with the Bong- Lofa corridors, the southeastern corridors, the Duala-Bopulu road, and the Robertsport road segments continue to pose challenges and shame to the Country, something he said needs urgent legislative attention. Additionally, Senator Chie reminded his colleagues of the Legislative and Presidential Elections that will be held in 2023, thereby calling for calm amongst various political actors. He at the same time urged for the settling of political differences through legal and other peaceful means, to preserve the peace.
