Conex Energy, Inc., the major supplier of jet fuel in Liberia, announced last week that there is a serious jet fuel shortage in the region, due to the Russia-Ukraine crisis. This has caused a major petroleum crisis in many parts of the world, primarily those countries that depend on Ukraine for the supply of petroleum. This task falls not on the United Nations and its Security Council alone, but on all nations, especially the powerful and influential ones. What, we ask again, can the world do about the jet fuel crisis? Conex, the Liberian petroleum supplier, has already warned of the jet fuel crisis facing the world, because of the Russia-Ukraine crisis.

US Ambassador to Liberia, Michael McCarthy, has blamed the government’s failure to provide the Liberia National Police with basic operational funds as one of the major factors that breeds corruption among officers. The US Ambassador to Liberia noted that while the country's police force is not only severely understaffed and underfunded, the lack of operational funds opens floodgates for corruption as officers have to collect money from complainants to execute arrests, among other things. Although the Liberian government has announced plans to recruit 1,000 officers, the LNP has not yet received funds to start this desperately needed process. Ambassador McCarthy believes when officials publicly announce what they have before commencing their functions, it will erase the mindset of corruption, build transparency and promote democracy. County governments comprise a fundamental component of Liberia’s democracy.

What we are saying here is related to Mother's Day as we are talking about the truth for the glory of 'our creator.' In 2018, the government of South Africa expelled the Rwandan Ambassador to South Africa because he was facilitating the assassination attempt on the life of a Rwandan opposition leader who had fled to South Africa. These committed women are, in effect, mothers because of their good records while non-committed women, women with no good records, are not mothers. We are celebrating Mother's Day at a time appointed by Our Creator for all of us to come together. In the month of May 2022, May Day and Mother's Day converge.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is but one of the many women leaders stretching the bounds of ingenuity and determination to save lives. While others were focused solely on the pandemic, women leaders took the initiative to set up maternal centers at COVID-19 points of care, minimizing infant mortality. Throughout the pandemic, women have shattered the myth that strategies based on compassion and consensus-building are weak and ineffectual. Adaptable and sensitive to the demands of the moment, women leaders have used these qualities to build unity and support for life-saving behaviors. Rather than being defeated by the double standards held against us, women leaders have remained humble, diligent, and collegial.

Mulbah’s alleged raping of Beatrice came to light when her guardian discovered that she was pregnant — a pregnancy he denied. Meanwhile, Panto has fired the school’s Acting Principal, Roosevelt Zinnah, for expelling a student who was reportedly raped and impregnated by her math teacher. Zinnah's decision, according to the school founder, Panto, was made from a “morally bankrupt” perspective and intended to silence the 14-year-old victim. The Grace Heritage International School System founder’s gesture of allowing Beatrice to return to school while pregnant might receive a setback. In Liberia, the Liberia Education law is silent on what should happen to girls who get pregnant while enrolled, leaving school administrators to decide the course of action.
