ZAMBIA’S former President Edgar Lungu has asked citizens to call for an early election, accusing his successor Hakainde Hichilema, popularly known as HH, of failing to run the economy. Lungu also accused President Hichilema of failing to manage the cholera outbreak which has claimed the lives of nearly 600 people since last October. Speaking at an opposition media briefing earlier this week, Lungu said Zambians should put pressure on the president to accept that an early election was “imperative”. “If you Zambians demand that we call upon HH to resign and call for an early election, let’s go that route, but it should come from you,” Lungu said. He had retired from politics in 2021 after suffering a crushing defeat in a presidential election.

African borders are a complex tapestry reflecting a rich mosaic of ethnic groups and cultures that span multiple nations. In the 1960s, insurgencies were ignited in Kenya and Ethiopia, with Somalia asserting claims over Somali-inhabited regions, and later on in 1977, Somalia directly waged war on Ethiopia in an attempt to seize the Somali region of Ethiopia by force. Despite the African Union’s principle to respect colonial borders, Somali elites never cease to advocate the regaining of these perceived “missing territories”. To mitigate Somali irredentism, official recognition of the Republic of Somaliland as a sovereign and independent nation emerges as a pivotal solution. In light of the recent MoU between Ethiopia and Somaliland, Ethiopia will become the first country to officially recognise the Republic of Somaliland as a sovereign nation.

Police in Washington state say an old rusted rocket found in a local man's garage is an inert nuclear missile. On Wednesday, a military museum in Ohio called police in the city of Bellevue to report an offer of a rather unusual donation. In a press release, police say the device is "in fact a Douglas AIR-2 Genie (previous designation MB-1), an unguided air-to-air rocket that is designed to carry a 1.5 kt W25 nuclear warhead". Bellevue Police Department spokesman Seth Tyler, told BBC News on Friday that the device was "just basically a gas tank for rocket fuel". Officials never suspected that a nuclear warhead might be present, meaning there was no need for mass evacuations in the city of 150,000 people 10 miles (16km) east of Seattle.
