President William Ruto will leave the country for Japan Monday night for a state visit aimed at fostering diplomatic ties between the two nations. In a statement Monday evening, State House Spokesman Hussein Mohamed said this will be the first visit by a Kenya President in 20 years since late President Mwai Kibaki's. "The visit follows Prime Minister Fumio Kushida's State Visit in May 2023 and celebrates 60 years of diplomatic relations between Kenyan and Japan," the statement read in part. Nairobi county governemnt has said that 761 people were affected by the Thursday night gas fire in Embakasi. Speaking during a press briefing on Monday, the acting county secretary Patrick Analo said the government is making efforts to get the affected families back on their feet. "The county has established that 148 households were affected by the blast, 761 people were affected, 50 businesses were burned and there are still 15 people who can't trace their family," he said. The acting county secretary said that 15 people are minors and children whose parents have not been identified. County officials confirmed the number of those seeking shelter to be 30 people.

Kenya will receive 250 wagons from China in February 2024 meant for the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) in a move aimed at boosting the Madaraka Express Freight Service. This Monday, February 5, Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen received 50 wagons, some of which will be used to transport perishable products. In total, the freight service will receive 300 wagons with CS Murkomen remarking it would improve rail services and efficiency. Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen flagging off new wagons for Madaraka Expressway Freight Service. Even so the top-line total remains 8.2 per cent – or more than $660 million – larger than the pre-COVID 2019 total. “So Outdoor is doing well in a market that’s emerged as the second largest ad market of all time, with last year’s abnormal Federal Election boost delivering a huge record total. And the Government category clearly reported the largest decline with total ad revenues back by more than $100 million on the CY2022 year. Within that Outdoor revenues are up 14.3 per cent and Digital ad spend has lifted 3.4 per cent.
