CANNES, France, May 14 (Xinhua) -- The 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival opened Tuesday on the French Riviera, with a selection of 22 films vying for the coveted Palme d'Or. The opening ceremony, presented by French actress Camille Cottin and featuring an exceptional guest of honor, American actress Meryl Streep, was broadcast live in hundreds of cinemas in towns and cities across France. Outside of the realm of the competition, the festival will premiere the film Le Deuxieme Acte by Quentin Dupieux for the first time anywhere in the world. President of the jury is 40-year-old American director Greta Gerwig, whose latest film "Barbie" smashed records. Rescuers have pulled four people out of the rubble of a collapsed building in the Mathare neighbourhood of Kenya's capital on Tuesday, but more people were likely trapped, the Kenya Red Cross said. "Three out of the four rescued have been taken to a nearby health facility, while one with minor injuries was treated at the scene," the Red Cross wrote on social media platform X. The building was undergoing demolition when it collapsed, the Red Cross said. The Tornado ReportAccording to a public information statement released by the National Weather Service of San Angelo, the supercell that hung over Coke County that fateful Friday actually produced two twisters. The first tornado, which had an EF2 rating, touched down 3 miles south-southwest of Silver at 3:40 p.m. The Silver tornado damaged a private property just north of FM 2029, ripping off the roof of a ranch house but leaving the walls standing.
