I think I’m more of a listener than a contributor, but having said that, I also like to collaborate a lot. Why my parents decided to call me Bartholomew is a good question, but I don’t really know why. When things don’t work, particularly on an infrastructural level, it’s very annoying and very hard to accept. It happens in every country, but in Ireland, the level of incompetence is really frustrating. I expect to be dead, and I really don’t want any f**k-ups.

Investing directly in stocks does currently involve less tax exposure but the risk for your money is far higher. Whatever else can be said about the Irish tax regime around investing, it is certainly neither consistent nor intuitive. Even if all those companies were still on the Dublin exchange, Dublin would be a tiny dot on the stock market landscape. For every Nvidia, Apple or Microsoft, there are many turkeys such as, in the Irish market context, Datalex. Changing to funds will alter the tax rules but, even with that, you would expect better returns than you’re seeing now.

There is one thing for sure reading the Department of Finance’s Future Forty long-term outlook published this week. A significant hole is likely to open up in the public finances. A notable aspect of the Department of Finance’s forecast is that if this trend were to keep going, then the outlook for the public finances becomes a lot more favourable. As the Fiscal Council points out, on current spending trends, the public finances are at risk of tightening much more rapidly. The key point is that, one way or another, the odds are rising that the public finances are going to get tighter and options will then narrow.

Irish coach Andy Farrell left Aviva Stadium pleased but not entirely with Ireland’s performance against Japan. “We were feeling sorry for ourselves a little bit and the mood wasn’t how it should be. But how we got over ourselves and got some tempo back into the game in the second half is credit to the lads. Getting off the line and having real intent in our collisions is something that we need to chase down a little bit more. A little bit scrappy.

Photograph: David Rogers/GettyWorld champions South Africa recovered from 14-6 down and the sending-off of powerhouse lock Lood de Jager to overpower France 32-17 in a bruising Autumn international on Saturday. France cracked completely under pressure as their discipline disintegrated, throwing away an early lead despite the Springboks being reduced to 14 men on the stroke of halftime. A succession of reckless infringements and a costly yellow card, however, handed the initiative to the Springboks who punished every mistake. South Africa fought back with tries from Cobus Reinach, Andre Esterhuizen, Grant Williams and Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, who also slotted two penalties and three conversions.

In an interview with The Irish Times, Ms Cairns said there were clear policy differences between her party and Sinn Féin. The united left-wing campaign, which was later supported by Sinn Féin, was presented as the foundation for a possible future left-wing government. “There are things that we don’t align with Sinn Féin on, and climate’s a really good example. Ms Cairns described the comments as “quite attention-seeking”, saying she does not think she gives them much attention.

When British Airways owner IAG came calling to buy Aer Lingus a decade ago, it quickly became a political football. [ Aer Lingus expects air fares to be flat next year despite competition for passengersOpens in new window ]On Friday, Aer Lingus boss Lynne Embleton seemed pessimistic about the Manchester base. “The base is performing lower than elsewhere in Aer Lingus, and Aer Lingus is performing lower than elsewhere in IAG, so it’s not performing at a level that makes it attractive for investment,” she said. There are issues at play beyond the finances of the Manchester hub, of course. The fact remains that she has publicly and fairly bluntly come out as being unhappy about the Manchester hub.

It was not a knock on as Italy claimed, allowing Gordon to pick up the loose ball and jink his way over. The home side held firm, however, with tenacious tackling in to stop a desperate Australia from scoring. The Wallabies won the first 18 tests between the countries, but Italy triumphed 28-27 in their last clash in Florence three years ago. Bulldozing centres Kalaveti Ravouvou and Josua Tuisova were proving a midfield menace and Fiji cut loose down the left before Caleb Muntz seized on Simione Kuruvoli’s kick to score their second try for a 10-7 lead. A minute later the winger strolled into the space where Ravutaumada should have been to catch a Fin Smith kick for England’s second try, which Smith converted for a 14-13 half-time lead.

The increase in older mothers in recent years has brought the average age of mothers giving birth to 33.2 years. It’s rare to see women having three or four babies. Prof Malone says there are two main physiological risks present in pregnancies among older women. There’s a higher risk of the development of gestational diabetes and hypertension.”Can women reduce these risks? If you’re obese, there’s a much higher chance of a baby being big, and then you’ve a higher chance of a C-section and complicated birth,” he says.

“These lovely small towns,” he told Rogan, “in England, Scotland and Ireland, they’ve been sort of living their lives quietly. But the reason they’ve been able to enjoy the Shire is because hard men have protected them from the dangers of the world. That view draws energy both from paranoiac conspiracy theories and from actual, and actually horrifying, instances of violent crime, including rape. Musk went on to allude to a recent high-profile case of alleged child sexual assault in this country, involving a 10-year-old girl who went missing from Tusla care.
