A testosterone-fuelled elephant went on a rampage when he was interrupted while having sex, which resulted in him attacking his caretaker and flipping over parked cars. The 19-year-old bull, named Phlai Petch Uthai, was taken by his owner, Somporn, 35, to mate with a female tusker in Buriram, Thailand, on Monday, February 16. But Phlai Petch Uthai became enraged when his owner tried to separate the pair after the encounter, leaving him with a serious lung injury. Phlai Petch Uthai fled the scene after injuring Somporn, who was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. Phlai Petch Uthai is now under the care of veterinarians at Elephant Kingdom in Surin province, while his mahout continues treatment at the hospital.

Cork and Tipperary have each been hit with €5,000 fines arising from last Saturday week’s melee in SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh. The fines were recommended by the Central Competitions Control Committee to the counties for “disruptive conduct by players”. Last year, Armagh and Donegal both received €7,500 fines following the ugly scenes at the end of May’s Ulster SFC final in Clones. Last April, Barrett was dismissed for another Category III offence when he reacted high against David Reidy and missed the following championship game with Tipperary. He and the Cork County Board now have the option of taking his case to the Central Appeals Committee.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was today urged to do 'the decent thing' and remove himself from the royal line of succession following his arrest over his links to Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew Bowie, a senior Tory MP, said it would be 'the decent thing' for Andrew to now voluntarily give up his place in the line of succession. Yet he remains eighth in line to the throne, just behind the children of Prince Harry, with an act of Parliament needed to formally remove Andrew. A YouGov poll showed more than eight in 10 (82 per cent) of Britons think Andrew should be removed from the royal line of succession. Constitutional experts said it would be a complex process to pass legislation to formally remove Andrew from the line of succession.

When ordinary earners cannot afford extraordinary home prices, the problem is not individual effort. For years, Government policy has treated housing primarily as an investment asset. If design consistently produces €500,000 homes in a city where average salaries cannot sustain them, then that design needs to be reshaped. Government housing policy is not neutral and it reflects priorities. A society that prices teachers, nurses, librarians, civil servants, hospitality workers, and young professionals out of stable housing undermines its own foundations.

Keane said last month that he was "concerned" about Carrick's appointment and claimed the Red Devils are a "circus act at the moment". The Red Devils lost the reverse fixture 1-0 in November through Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's first-half strike. Sky will show at least 215 live Premier League games this season, an increase of up to 100 more.

As camogie teams up and down the country were getting back into the heat of battle once more, Roscommon were forced to wait in the wings after their opening round game in Division Three of the Centra Camogie League against Kildare was postponed last weekend. Barring any further weather-related disruption, Roscommon will commence their campaign with a home game against Armagh this Saturday in St. Aidan's GAA grounds, Ballyforan (throw-in is at 2 p.m.). However, teams that lift championship titles in Croke Park often need to secure a league title to harness that winning feeling. With five teams competing for two league final spots, Roscommon have a chance to send out a statement of intent against an Armagh team that beat them twice in last year’s championship, most notably ending their season at the All-Ireland semi-final stage. Roscommon can close the gap to Armagh, but beating a team that will be favourites for league and championship honours might just be a step too far.

In 34 years, nine times Dublin tried and failed in championship before Stephen Cluxton’s cloudbursting free in 2011. Between 2000 and ’09, Dublin and Kerry met seven times and the latter won five, drawing two. Their return of one win from five league meetings since 2020 isn’t much to shout about either but where Kerry really haven’t kept up their side of the rivalry is in Croke Park. Years can often inflate a statistic – Dublin and Kerry only met once in championship between 1985 and 2001 – but The Kingdom have lost all five of their previous round clashes with Dublin in Croke Park. Dublin may have plenty learning the ropes, but then so do Kerry, and they remain Dublin.
