Christine Lagarde said her base case is to see out her term as European Central Bank president, following a report this week that she’ll step down early. While the ECB insisted at the time that Lagarde is “totally focused on her mission,” in saying that she “has not taken any decision regarding the end of her term,” it suggested she’s indeed considering cutting short her tenure. Lagarde has been linked with an early departure from the ECB before, but sought last June to quash talk that she’s planning to head the World Economic Forum. Lagarde told the WSJ that the WEF is “one of the many options” she’s considering once she leaves the ECB. On Friday, Ms Justice Caroline Biggs said she wanted to thank the woman “for 3½ months of answering questions”. One of the men is further accused of sexually abusing two of his younger sisters – also sisters of the main complainant. He has denied nine counts of anal rape and seven counts of raping her. He is also charged with two counts of rape and one of anal rape of this woman on dates between 2016 and 2019.

A Tipperary man who died in a tragic road accident on Thursday evening this week has been named locally as Paddy Kinane. Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the fatal incident near Tipperary town that occurred on the L8109 road at Ardloman, Co. Tipperary, on Thursday, February 19, confirmed a garda spokesperson on Friday morning. The incident occurred at about 2.35pm and a male, aged in his 60s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. It’s awful tragic for the area.”Mr Kinane was held in high esteem and was widely respected in the community. A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) said they are aware of the fatal incident and have launched an investigation.

'A serious road safety issue for every other road user'Gardai in Offaly recently detected a motorist driving at 144km/hr, whilst disqualified from driving, and carrying 19 penalty points. "On inspection, the driver was found to be disqualified from driving and had accumulated 19 penalty points," the Garda post read. When you add disqualification into the mix, it becomes a serious road safety issue for every other road user. "Road safety is a shared responsibility. Slow down, drive to the conditions, and ensure you are legally entitled to be on the road," Gardai said.
