Bodo/Glimt have dumped last season's Champions League finalists Inter Milan out of the competition to sensationally book their place in the last 16, after a historical victory at the San Siro. The Champions League minnows now face a potential reunion with Manchester City in the next round, or a tie with Portuguese champions Sporting CP. But they have since gone on a historic run of results, beating Juventus, 2023 winners City, Atletico Madrid - away from home - and Inter Milan twice. This Inter side are currently 10 points clear at the top of the Serie A, making this one of the biggest upsets in Champions League history. The two-legged victory means that Bodo have become the first Norwegian side to win a Champions League knockout tie.

Kerry club delegates fully endorsed county secretary Peter Twiss and the executive’s opposition to extending the inter-county season by two weeks at this month’s county committee meeting. Twiss outlined to delegates that Kerry had nothing in principle against the two-week extension but the knock-on effect it would have on the Kerry club and county championships was a price clubs should not be asked to pay. The secretary said that 16 weekends are needed to play off the club championships in Kerry to have winners ready to take part in the Munster club championships. The question is, and we have to raise this at Congress, we need 16 weekends to play our county championships, our club championships. Some counties run a county championship that doesn’t really need 16 weekends.

Melvyn Bragg “went up” to Oxford University in 1958, sporting an Elvis Presley look-alike haircut. Bragg cites, for example, the notorious Bullingdon Club, which was considered a breeding ground for political eminence in the late 1950s. He mentions that the club coughed up two of Britain’s “worst prime ministers, who went on to become spivs” (David Cameron and Boris Johnson). There were, though, few women around the Oxford campus in Bragg’s time. “The lack of women was a terrible deprivation,” says Bragg, 86.

It indicates a minister for higher education who is completely out of touch with how student life, and student learning, works. There is no doubt that for many of our students long commutes impact on their university experience. Activism is another aspect of student life that would not thrive in a hollowed out, compressed student experience. Students' unions are central to the student experience. So, it’s a no to condensed timetables; rather build more student housing to take the pressure off accommodating students, create spaces for students to learn and thrive, give students the experience previous generations had, not the pastiche of a third-level experience the minister suggests.

The never-ending Jeffrey Epstein controversy took another twist on Monday with the arrest of Peter Mandelson in England. Mandelson is expected to face further questioning, with misconduct in public office the specific offence British police are focused on. British prime minister Keir Starmer’s chief of staff, Cork man Morgan McSweeney, has already resigned. Widely regarded as the power behind Starmer’s throne, McSweeney stepped down while taking ‘full responsibility’ for advising Starmer to appoint Mandelson as US ambassador. House prices in Ireland are unlikely to drop for at least another 10 years given the lack of supply of homes, an Oireachtas committee has been told. The Oireachtas housing committee heard that, at the current rates of housing delivery, it would be the late 2030s at least before supply would meet demand. However, he added that his “personal view” would be that if “demand is exceeding supply then you wouldn’t see prices going down”. “We fully support the housing growth requirements,” he said. Mr Cussen said:There is a little bit of a miss in relation to the social nature of things in planning requirements and technical requirements.
