It means that, as usual, everything is to play for over the final two weekends of league action. I wondered on Saturday if Cork were coming, but instead they suffered a damaging defeat in Derry. They sit on -7 points, whereas Meath are on 18 points and Derry an incredible 46 points. They now head for The Campus in Quinta da Lago in Portugal this week with a major cloud over their heads. On the positive side they will have time and space to process, discuss and try to fix it.

The Brazilian midfielder announced earlier this year that he would be departing the club upon the expiry of his contract. That has left the Red Devils with time to consider potential replacements for the former Real Madrid star, albeit it appears that Casemiro himself has had a big say. ‌According to Spanish outlet AS, Newcastle midfielder Guimaraes is right at the top of their potential shopping list. ‌Another Newcastle star in Sandro Tonali is also being considered, with United thought to be ahead of Juventus in the race for the Italian due to the Serie A side’s precarious financial situation. ‌View 2 Images Man United are interested in Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes (Image: Getty Images)FOLLOW OUR MAN UTD FB PAGE!

The owner of a seaside north Dublin home has been directed to demolish the extension he built without planning permission within eight months. Judge John O’Connor also told Phillip Farrelly he would have a further six months to restore the land with topsoil and grass seed or other material acceptable to Fingal County Council. Fingal had looked for demolition of the unapproved development within four months, which the judge doubled with an added six months for restoration of the grounds. The judge had earlier made a declaration stating the structures surrounding Farrelly’s home were an unauthorised development that would require demolition and restoration. Farrelly, who had sought to agree a retention plan with the local authority, has appealed the judge’s ruling to the High Court.

Three days into the United States and Israel’s military campaign against Iran, the implications are becoming clearer, and they are deeply troubling. This time, Iranian drones and missiles have struck targets across the Persian Gulf, from Bahrain and Qatar to the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Most Iranians would welcome the end of a brutal, despotic and economically ruinous regime that has impoverished them for decades. Iran’s neighbours will be anxious at the prospect of collapse or civil war driving waves of refugees across their borders. Their public statements oscillate between urging the Iranian people to revolt and hinting at some accommodation with the current leadership.

With a name like that I assumed there had to be an Irish connection and so some research led me to the story of Lieut Michael P Murphy, a Navy Seal who was killed in Afghanistan in 2005. On graduating from high school Murphy was accepted into Penn State University where he studied psychology and political science. [ Ernie O’Malley’s century-old memoirs now read like a nature writer at warOpens in new window ]Having completed officer’s school, Murphy then set his sights on becoming a Navy Seal. A fierce gunfight ensued with the Seal team greatly outnumbered. Since his death, a Navy Seal museum named in his honour has been opened on Long Island and in 2011 the US Navy christened their ship, an Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer, after Murphy.

Photograph: iStockA wind farm developer has been awarded 50 per cent of its legal costs incurred in a landmark Supreme Court challenge related to climate law obligations of planning authorities and public bodies. The ruling made it clear that climate obligations were “real, effective and, if necessary, enforceable” and created a “legal standard which must be complied with by a relevant body”. The court noted that while Coolglass succeeded in the “most important” aspect of the case, ACP prevailed in the majority of grounds of appeal advanced by the developer. In those circumstances, the court said it was appropriate to award Coolgass 50 per cent of its costs incurred in the appeal and previous High Court challenge against ACP. The court made no order for costs against the Attorney General, who was also a party to the case.

Bundee Aki came back into the Irish squad this week with a view of claiming pitch time ahead of Ireland’s fourth game of this year’s Six Nations Championship against Wales on Friday in Aviva Stadium (KO: 8.10pm).
