WASHINGTON - U.S. President Joe Biden is expected to hold a phone call on Wednesday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about any plans to strike Iran, Axios reported late on Tuesday, citing three U.S. officials. Biden to speak to Netanyahu about Iran retaliation on Wednesday, Axios reports"We want to use the call to try and shape the limitations of the Israeli retaliation," a U.S. official was quoted as saying by Axios. Axios cited the U.S. official as saying that Washington wants to make sure Israel attacks targets in Iran that are significant without being disproportionate. The Middle East has been on edge awaiting Israel's response to a missile attack from Iran last week that Tehran carried out in retaliation for Israel's military escalation in Lebanon. The Iranian attack ultimately killed no one in Israel and Washington called it ineffective.

Senior journalist Mahesh Langa, a senior assistant editor at The Hindu, was arrested on Tuesday by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch in connection with an alleged Goods and Services Tax (GST) fraud case. This arrest is part of a larger investigation into a scheme involving over 200 fraudulent companies that reportedly used fake input tax credit (ITC) claims to defraud the government. The US Justice Department told a federal judge it is considering recommending that Google be forced to sell off parts of its operations to alleviate the harm caused by its monopolisation of the online search market, in what would be a historic antitrust breakup. The Ahmedabad Crime Branch on Tuesday arrested The Hindu journalist Mahesh Langa along with three others in alleged GST related fraud case. This development comes after 14 firms and their proprietors were raided across Gujarat following a complaint by the Central GST department. The crime branch said that the GST fraud led to significant loss for the government exchequer, with the accused involved in availing and passing bogus input tax credit through fake bills. The Central GST has said that forged documents in the names of Mahesh Langa’s wife and father were used for dubious transactions. The Crime Branch in a statement said that as per the initial investigation, the fraud may run into crores.
