Top officials told The Indian Express that plans are to manufacture 90 of the 114 Rafale fighter jets domestically, with close to 50 per cent indigenous content. Earlier, an indigenous content of 30 per cent was discussed for the jets that were to be manufactured in India. “The acquisition of P8I aircraft will significantly boost the Navy’s combat/war-fighting capability of long-range anti-submarine warfare, maritime surveillance and maritime strike capability,” the Defence Ministry said. The procurement will assist in enhancing the efficacy of maritime surveillance capability of the ICG,” the statement noted. Grant of AoNs is the first step in the defence procurement process.

The legal fraternity has stepped in to save ‘Mohammad’ Deepak’s gym in Kotdwar following a dip in membership and revenue. Following The Indian Express report on the collapse of Hulk Gym’s membership from 150 to 15 members, the legal fraternity, comprising 15 Senior Advocates of the Supreme Court, has stepped up to help sustain Deepak Kumar’s livelihood. The dip in gym membership meant Kumar was struggling to pay the monthly rent of Rs 40,000 for the establishment, and the loan he borrowed to build a house. Following the report, the Senior Advocates have pitched in Rs 10,000 each as a one-year membership fee. The senior advocate who led the drive told The Indian Express that he spoke to Deepak, who expressed an inability to accept money.

Rolls-Royce is planning to scale up its business in India to support future programmes and partnerships across defence, civil aviation and energy, said the British company on Thursday. This announcement by Rolls-Royce came after Chief Executive Officer Tufan Erginbilgic met the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday. “As we grow our participation in programmes across India’s defence, aviation and energy sectors, we will expand our ecosystem in India, as we have done successfully in other countries,” said Tufan Erginbilgic. Rolls-Royce with the UK Government, has offered to co-develop a 120 kN class combat jet engine core that could be India’s fastest route to an indigenous next-generation engine. The co-development will provide full technology transfer with IP ownership for India, supported by a dedicated design complex and manufacturing capabilities that will unlock significant job creation, it added.

“As you are aware, the India-US Joint Statement on the framework for an Interim Agreement on reciprocal and mutually beneficial trade was issued on 7 February 2026. The Joint Statement is the framework and remains the basis of our mutual understanding in the matter. The amendments in the US fact sheet reflect the shared understandings contained in the Joint Statement,” External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.
