According to the Union, the possible increment is due to the new levies placed on petroleum products as announced in government’s 2021 Budget statement. General Secretary of the GPRTU, Godfred Abuldire Adogma, in interaction with Citi News explained an increment in transport fares had been imminent but have to be held back in order to factor in the new levies. Already, there has been a 30-pesewa hike in petroleum products which has taken effect from Saturday, May 1, 2021. Meanwhile, some transport commuters following the presentation of the 2021 budget have been lamenting at the introduction of the new taxes and levies by government.

The reshuffle which takes immediate effect affected 43 top senior officers made up of some Management Members, Schedule Officers and Regional Commanders. At the Regional Command level 18 ACIs have been posted to the Regional Commands as Deputy Regional Commanders to strength Immigration Operations and Command structure in the Regions. Four other senior officers were posted as Regional Operations Officers namely, ACI Isaac Morgan who goes to the Volta Region, Chief Superintendent (C/Supt.) The wheelchairs were donated on behalf of the Free Wheelchair Mission FWM in California-USA and is intended to support students with mobility challenges in order to enable them to have access to the University environment. Additionally, the gesture is expected to assist students with disabilities to complete their university education without difficulties and more importantly with good grades, which will eventually help them secure good employment.

Isaac Asiamah explained in a Facebook post that during his tenure at the Ministry, a number of claims were made and some were rejected including the supposed $300,000 debt. The Ghana embassy in Egypt could not convince the Ministry, hence our inability to pay when I was the Minister. Reports indicate that the over $300,000 debt was incurred after the embassy pre-financed the accommodation of supporters for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. But Isaac Asiamah has come out to explain the reason for which he declined to authorize payment of the said debt.

Mustapha Ussif earlier this week initiated a drive to woo private sector sponsorship for our National Teams. The junior national teams are also expected to benefit from these sponsorship packages. He reiterated his government’s commitment by declaring a $10m support to the $25m estimated budget of all national teams. A section of the media and public have raised concerns over the budget estimate for the national teams over the extended period.
