According to him, the initial plan to go meet the Inspector-General of Police to discuss issues with respect to their campaign and their intended demonstration was cut short along the way and a new route taken. This new route, he indicated, led them away from their originally planned meeting venue, to what they discovered, was a meeting of government ministers, with the exception of the Health minister. He expressed worry about the spate of road accidents nationwide and cautioned drivers driving without the requisite training to stop driving as the repercussions were severe. He admonished drivers to observe and obey road traffic signs when driving. Road traffic accidents between January and March 2021 resulted in the death of 771 persons. However, the data from the Police on road accidents within the first quarter surpass Covid-19 casualties so far, with another 4700 suffering various degrees of injuries as a result of road crashes.

The hashtag which started on social media has garnered over 800,000 reactions from Ghanaians across the world but has been met with criticisms from a section of government officials. But reacting to the development, Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu described the social media campaign as “an enclave of unnecessary discourse”. Originator of the #FixTheCountry campaign, a 24-year-old social media influencer and national service personnel noted that the sorry state of several systems in the country and unemployment rate are but a few reasons which forced him to start the movement. Joshua Boye-Doe, known on social media as KalyJay maintained on GhanaWeb’s #SayItLoud that there were no political affiliations to the #FixTheCountry campaign.
