This came about during a hearing on an injunction case brought before the court by three National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament on the E-Levy. The order was given by Nene Amegatcher, one of the justices of the Supreme Court, following their unanimous dismissal of the injunction application brought by the MPs. From the secrecy, or little that is known about such details such as the kind of food or daily routines that the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, takes, every little information on the revered King of the Asantes that makes its way to the public surely turns head. In a video that has been seen by GhanaWeb, and shared by Me Yɛ Asanteni on Facebook, it shows how the Asantehene steps out from his palace, the Manhyia Palace. In what appears like a presidential convoy, a number of police motorbike riders lead the drive out of the palace, followed closely by other vehicles. See it here:TWI NEWS

Deputy Finance Minister John Kumah has asked Ningo Prampram Member of Parliament, Sam Nartey George to use his brains in advancing his views on E-levy taxation on payment of tithe. Sam George has recently stated that the E-Levy will affect payment of tithe, a claim that government through the deputy finance minister, John Kumah has dismissed. The Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications has, meanwhile, confirmed that payment of tithe via Mobile Money will attract the E-levy. Quoting the news article, Sam George asked John Kumah to ‘keep quiet’ when IT deployment issues are being discussed. We are taxing people for using an online platform and if in the course of paying their tithe, they are taxed for using a platform,” John Kumah said in a series of tweets.

He has, therefore, insisted that the government has not breached any order of the court for kick-starting the E-Levy policy. “There is no court order so, we have not breached anything. General News of Sunday, 1 May 2022Source: www.ghanaweb.comPresident Akufo-Addo addresses labour on May Day celebrationGovt to miss out on GH¢4bn in revenue if petroleum taxes are removed - Akufo-AddoLabour unions agitate over working conditionsPresident Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expalined why it will not be prudent for government to remove taxes on petroleum products. This comes after prices of petroleum products selling at the pumps have increased significantly since the start of this year with consumers and the general population calling on government to remove some taxes. He added that the government was currently faced with very tight fiscal and financing conditions, and revenue generation constraints, hence removing taxes on petroleum taxes will worsen the current conditions. “Government is also working hard to ensure reliable supply and availability of petroleum products, thereby preventing shortages, a phenomenon which is being experienced in some other neighbouring countries. We, therefore, continue to be vulnerable to the price volatilities of the world market for petroleum products,” he added.
