Politics of Tuesday, 30 May 2023Source: www.ghanaweb.comThe New Patriotic Party (NPP) has witnessed a growing interest in its upcoming Presidential race for the 2024 general election, as six individuals have officially picked up forms to contest and become the party's flagbearer. To comply with the party's constitution, which mandates narrowing down the contestants to five, a special congress is likely to be convened in August. This congress will serve the purpose of reducing the number of contenders and preparing for the subsequent Presidential primaries in November. According to Article 13 (9) of the party's constitution, a Special Electoral College will play a pivotal role in this process. As the race for the NPP's flagbearer intensifies, all eyes are now on the forthcoming Special Congress, which will play a crucial role in shaping the field of candidates and determining the final contenders for the Presidential primaries.

He added, "More than a hundred individuals have paid for Kennedy Agyapong to pick up his presidential forms." He further promised that the collection of the presidential forms would be conducted in a grand style. Meanwhile, five flagbearer hopefuls have picked up their nomination forms to contest in the race. They include;Former energy minister, Boakye Agyarko, was the first person to pick up nomination forms for the party's primaries. Francis Addai-Nimoh, a former lawmaker also had nomination forms picked up for him last Friday as did former General Secretary of the NPP, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.

The said video, which has been sighted by GhanaWeb, showed tens of men in a prison yard engaging in different activities. Some men could be seen bathing in the video while others held buckets as they walked through the yard. Some of the men can also be seen holding suspected to be drugs. The person who took the video can be heard saying in the Twi dialect: "We are doing time in prison".

Mr. Kipo Sulemana, the Bole District Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), confirmed the occurrence to the Ghana News Agency in Tamale on Saturday. According to Mr. Sulemana, two individuals managed to survive the incident, while around five individuals are still unaccounted for. These people were coming from the northern side and when they got to a point, their canoe capsized. NADMO's investigation revealed that the boat was carrying an excessive number of passengers and goods, which likely contributed to the accident. As a result, NADMO is relying on local residents to assist in the search and rescue operation for those who are missing.

According to journalist Kojo Akoto Boateng, the vehicles involved in the crash include a Nissan Sentra, a Hyundai mini-bus and a Honda Accord. According to eyewitnesses, the driver attempted to cross the rail tracks hastily but became stuck, leading to the oncoming train colliding with the vehicle and pushing it off the tracks. A video of the incident captured passersby assisting the driver out of the taxi and urging him to report the incident to the police. The driver appeared visibly shaken by the accident as he retrieved his belongings from the vehicle.
