In a joint statement issued on October 9, 2024, transport unions such as PROTOA, Co-operative, Ghana Committed Drivers Association, Tiger Transport, and Image Transport expressed solidarity with Organized Labour but noted that withdrawing their services would harm commuters. The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) supported this stance, citing the "irreparable adverse impact" on commuters. The Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC), a government agency responsible for coordinating and regulating road transport services in Ghana, also urged transport operators to refrain from participating, classifying their services as "essential". Labour unions, including the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives’ Association and the Ghana Medical Association, withdrew from the intended strike.

The strike, supported by 77.95% of UTAG members from 15 branches, reflects the association's commitment to safeguarding the environment from harmful mining practices. In a referendum organized by UTAG’s National Executive Council (NEC), 2,153 out of 2,762 members voted in favor of the strike, demanding an immediate stop to mining in forest reserves, farmlands, and water bodies. Only 607 members voted against the strike, with just two abstentions. The NEC has referred to this outcome as a "decisive mandate," which has paved the way for indefinite industrial action across all UTAG branches. In a statement dated October 9, 2024, released by the NEC, the association highlighted its members’ strong resolve to safeguard the environment.

The Bishops believe enforcing laws and holding those responsible for illegal mining accountable are key to stopping the damage it causes. The statement read “Immediate and Decisive Action by Government: We urge the government to stop the lips service in fighting galamsey by employing all available means to halt illegal mining activities. While they condemned illegal mining, they also recognized its economic importance to Ghana. They urged both large and small mining companies to follow environmental rules and practice responsible mining. The Bishops also suggested creating alternative jobs for people involved in galamsey to help them find other ways to earn a living.
