WorldStage Newsonline– The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has lauded the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo for suspending every activity related to the operationalisation of the Nigeria Air. The minister on Thursday, said all activities of Nigeria Air and Concession were suspended until he briefed President Bola Tinubu about them. “However, we remain confident that by suspending the Nigeria Air project to allow for a thorough review, the new aviation minister will put things right and help restore Nigeria’s image in the global aviation family. “AON continues to believe that it is not right to float a national carrier on the terms set out by the immediate past aviation minister. “This is because the process will undermine, even destroy, the aviation sector in Nigeria with Ethiopian Airlines waiting on the wings for total takeover.”he said.

By Chinelo ObogoAirline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has commended the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, for ordering the suspension of Nigeria Air, the national carrier project launched by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari. The local airlines further alleged that the ATL issued to Nigeria Air did not pass through the normal security clearance. According to them, the Federal Government’s partnership with Ethiopian Airlines on the project would send domestic airlines out of business by opening up the domestic air travel market to Ethiopian Airlines. The statement by Keyamo on Thursday announcing the suspension of Nigeria Air was commended by AON and industry stakeholders. “However, we remain confident that by suspending the Nigeria Air project to allow for a thorough review, the Aviation Minister will put things right and help restore Nigeria’s image in the global aviation family.

Following quickly on the success of India’s moon landing, the country’s space agency launched a rocket on Saturday to study the sun in its first solar mission. The rocket left a trail of smoke and fire as scientists clapped, a live broadcast on the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) website showed. While Russia had a more powerful rocket, India’s Chandrayaan-3 out-endured the Luna-25 to execute a textbook landing. Prime Minister Modi is pushing for India’s space missions to play a larger role on a world stage dominated by the United States and China. Satellites in low earth orbit are the main focus of global private players, which makes the Aditya-L1 mission a very important project,” he said.

Addressing the Defence Force media, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula described the "extremist" groups operating in Ethiopia, particularly in the Amhara and Oromia regions, as no longer posing a significant threat. The Amhara region, home to a prominent local militia known as Fano, has been embroiled in a prolonged conflict with the Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF). Contrary to Field Marshal Birhanu Jula's claims, local media reports indicate escalating clashes in some areas this week. General Birhanu noted that the defense army is currently operating at only 10 percent of its capacity in the Amhara region. Claims by Fano that they captured three helicopters, tanks, and killed a military general were refuted as "false" by Field Marshal Birhanu Jula.

By NJ Ayuk – In this article the writer argues that delayed organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) cuts mean opportunity for African members. Many of OPEC’s African member states had been struggling to produce enough crude to meet the targets set for them last year. Algeria and Gabon are the two African members among those volunteers. Algeria in the north is another high achiever, with production capacity that exceeds its 2024 OPEC target of 959,000 bpd. A united effort to awaken more investor interest in African oil should start now, as should cooperation among African members to present a more unified voice when the 36th OPEC meeting is held in November, 2023.

ADDIS ABABA – Gabon has been suspended from its African Union (AU) membership after a military ousted president President Ali Bongo from power on Wednesday. The decision was made by the AU Peace and Security Council after a meeting on Thursday afternoon. The army took over power in the West African nation after the results of a contested election declared President Bongo as the winner of a third term. The African Union Chair Moussa Faki Mahamat was quick to condemn the military’s move used “as a means out of the current post-electoral crisis”. Gabon is yet another former French colony in West Africa to experience a coup – following Mali, Burkina Faso, Guinea and Niger.
