After recent deadly attacks in northern Mali, some people in Bamako say the government should consider restarting or increasing dialogue with armed groups. There's been a resurgence of deadly violence in Mali's north in recent weeks inolving attacks by Islamist militants on civilians and security forces. ".... We're all Malians, so it would be better to talk to each other and come back to the negotiating table. We'll never be able to liberate the North without war, and after the war we'll negotiate, because we'll all know each other's weight. The surge in violence comes UN peacekeeping forces vacate their bases ahead of their full withdrawal at the end of the year.

South African Tourism has announced the launch of #IsDiwaliDekhoMore&More campaign in partnership with Ethiopian Airlines. It is aimed at encouraging Indian travellers to visit South African destinations and experience its diversity. The British Museum is facing calls from one of its own former curators to return sacred tablets to Ethiopia. “Following an undertaking given by the British Museum, nobody but priests of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church ever will.”It has been argued that the British Museum Act of 1963 prevents treasures housed in museums from being given away unless in specific circumstances, such as when they are “unfit to be retained”. The Tabots are among artefacts seized by the British in the 1868 Battle of Magdala. The British Museum Act restricts their ability to hand back almost every item in the collection, but not the Tabots. “The Tabots can be released now without a change in the Act, simply by the trustees recognising they are unfit to be retained.

The flight is currently negotiating a diversion and return to the departure airport. Diversion and return AUHThe flight had been airborne for approximately 30 minutes before negotiating the subsequent return to AUH. Weather for the flight’s return to AUH is visual flight conditions (VFR), with nil cloud and visibility 10km or more.

Addis Abeba – A global network of over 300 human rights organizations from 105 countries is urgently calling on the government of Ethiopia to end the current internet shutdown in the Amhara region. The KeepItOn coalition, a global movement to end internet shutdowns, believes that internet shutdowns during conflicts put people’s lives at risk and prevent access to vital information. Following these escalations, reports of disruptions in flight operations to various cities in the region and internet shutdowns have also emerged. The UN Human Rights Office also reported at least 183 deaths in clashes since July, as well as mass arrests of over 1,000 individuals. This is not the first time Ethiopian authorities have resorted to internet shutdowns during times of conflict and crisis.

The successful transfer of knowledge and skills from China in the fields of science and technology is helping Ethiopia realize its development aspirations, an Ethiopian expert has said.
