Egypt’s Minister of the Environment Yasmine Fouad met on Sunday with a number of investors and representatives of companies investing in converting waste into energy. The minister indicated that the government had finished setting the final form and formula for operating contracts, and a number of sites were proposed in which these projects could be implemented, as the first station for converting waste into electric energy was started in Abu Rawash in Giza Governorate. Fouad listened to the opinions of investors, and the problems they face in this field, especially after two years have passed since the launch of the project, and a number of measures were taken in this regard. The minister clarified the mechanism, the procedures followed in signing contracts in this field, and the role played by the concerned state authorities in this regard. She also confirmed that the Ministry of Environment was keen to coordinate with all partner parties to study and determine the best ways and decisions necessary to prepare the environment for the implementation of this type of project.

The Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) launched the first fund to invest in gold. This comes within the FRA’s strategy to support the Egyptian government’s efforts to enhance levels of financial and investment inclusion and develop the non-banking financial sector. The FRA issued all regulatory and legislative decisions and controls to regulate the dealings of investment funds in minerals. 52 of 2023 which entails the conditions that must be met by investment fund entities in order to purchase, deal and sell minerals. The fund will be run by Evolve Azimut, a joint venture between Evolve Holding and Azimut Egypt.

The Egyptian government sold 10% of its stake in Telecom Egypt by inviting subscriptions through the book building mechanism last Thursday, relevant sources told Daily News Egypt. The sources added that the offered shares were covered twice, in a deal valued at about $128m. The average value of sold shares amounted to EGP 23.25 per share, provided that the settlement of the deal takes place on 15 May. Bloomberg International Agency, published last Thursday, that a book building mechanism was opened to offer an additional 10% of Telecom Egypt, with a price range ranging between EGP 22.22-27.16 per share. Data services revenues increased by EGP 3.2bn compared to the previous year, with other revenues of the enterprise business unit increasing by EGP 0.9bn.

Egypt’s Ministry of Finance sells a 9.5 percent stake in state-owned telecom operator Telecom Egypt, raising more than LE 3.7 billion, which accounts for $121 million. The volume of requests received in the first tranche reached more than 504 million shares, which is around 3.11 times more than the total shares offered for that tranche. The Egyptian government sold more than 162 million shares, at a price of EGP 23.1 per share. Before this rating action, Egypt's ratings were B3 and the outlook was stable.
