The goal of the hub would be to promote co-operation between NATO's military members and the technology sector, including tech startups and academic researchers. Anand says the proposed hub would focus not on building weapons but on emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, big-data processing, quantum-enabled technologies, biotechnology and novel materials. One hundred non-profit and housing group leaders wrote to Premier Doug Ford and Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Steve Clark this week pleading for an overhaul of the omnibus housing bill. Here are the key concerns that have been raised since Ford’s Progressive Conservative government tabled the housing bill last month. Development charges also fund projects like Open Door, a city program that activates surplus public land, provides capital and property tax relief and, waives fees for affordable housing development. It wasn't until Feb. 9 that deputy ministers started considering using it in the context of the protest. When such a serious option was brought to the table, Charette recommended ministers move the discussions to an incident response committee of cabinet ministers with decision-making powers. Charette said not every option was exhausted before cabinet decided to move ahead with the Emergencies Act.
