Titmus, the Olympic champion in the 200- and 400-meter freestyle events, now holds the world records in both events. "Honestly, the world record is a bonus," she said. REUTERSIndia's retail inflation rate eased slightly in May, partly helped by fall in fuel prices although food prices remained elevated, government data showed on Wednesday. Annual retail inflation in May was 4.75%, down from 4.83% in April and lower than 4.89% forecast by 50 economists polled by Reuters. Moderation in inflation was led by a moderation in core inflation and a decline in fuel inflation," Swati Arora, economist at HDFC Bank said. The inflation rate for cereals was 8.69% year-on-year in May, compared with 8.63% in the previous month. Vegetable prices rose 27.3% in May, against 27.8% in the previous month.

DHAKA, June 12, 2024 (BSS) – Bangladesh government today welcomed the Omani government's decision to withdraw restrictions from a few categories of visas for Bangladeshi citizens, an official release said. Referring to the decision of the government of the Sultanate of Oman, the Omani Embassy in Dhaka, in its 'self- explanatory Note' states that the concerned authority has withdrawn the temporary restrictions imposed on Bangladeshi nationals. The exempted visa categories include: all official visas, family visa, visitors visa for Bangladeshi nationals living in the GCC countries, engineers, doctors, nurses, teachers, accountants, investors, and high- income tourists, the release said. The Embassy Note further assures that both concerned authorities in Oman and Bangladesh are working towards lifting the ban on work visas which is in progress. Earlier, in October 2023, Omani Royal Police imposed a temporary ban on all categories of visa except for official purposes from Bangladesh in a bid to review their overall migration policy.
A man has died by suicide after killing his five-year-old daughter by slitting her throat in Barishal, according to police. The incident occurred on the third floor of a building named ‘Swapno Bilas’ in the city’s Kawnia early on Wednesday, said Kawnia Police Station Sub-Inspector Arafat Hasan, as per bdnews24.com reports. The deceased are Nayem Hawladar, 35, from Barakotha Union in Wazirpur Upazila and his five-year-old daughter Rabeya Bashri Roza. Nayem was a driver for the healthcare company Opsonin Pharma Ltd. Daily Sun gathered almost all the stalls were removed from the site, revealing the four walls of the Id ground which had earlier been covered by the market stalls. Many of the affected traders remained at the site during the demolition exercise, watching helplessly as their stalls were being demolished. Some of them told newsmen that they had occupied the market area for 18 years and had no other place to relocate to. The demolition exercise came just four days to the Id-el-Kabir celebrations when thousands of customers from within and outside the state are patronosing the markets for the upcoming Sallah festival.
