Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has acknowledged that Bangladesh’s transport system is “all over the place”, emphasising the urgent need to restore order before it becomes a major threat to the national economy. Speaking at an inter-ministerial meeting on Sunday, he warned that if discipline is not restored soon, the entire system will turn into a “noose around the neck of the economy”. The meeting, held at the State Guest House Jamuna, discussed the evaluation and strategic planning of the Central Integrated Multimodal Transport Sector Master Plan of Bangladesh, according to a media statement issued by the Chief Advisor’s Office. The plan showed ways to bring the national transport network under discipline through integration, with selective reforms and additions where needed. Reiterating the importance of river transport, he said: “When we think of our rivers as transport channels, we must remember, our rivers are our lifelines.”Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor Sheikh Moinuddin noted that the planning aims to build an “economic lifeline” through integrated transport networks.

Pakistani pop-rock band Jal is set to perform in Dhaka on November 28 at the 300 Feet Road Swadesh Arena in a major open-air event titled "Sound of Soul". Joining them on stage will be Bangladesh's rock pioneers Warfaze and contemporary band Level Five, in a concert organised by Stage Co. Warfaze invited fans to attend, saying, "After a long time we return to an open-air stage. Join us at Swadesh Arena for 'Sound of Soul'—raise your voice with Warfaze." The "Legends of the Decade" concert, initially scheduled at Dhaka Arena on September 27 was postponed hours before showtime due to rain.

The National Citizen Party, formed by young leaders who spearheaded the July Uprising, has agreed to take ‘Shapla Koli’ as its election symbol -- backing away from its earlier insistence on securing the Shapla logo. The decision was announced on Sunday after a meeting with the chief election commissioner (CEC) at the Election Commission headquarters in Dhaka. NCP’s Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary said, “The National Citizen Party has submitted letters to the Election Commission requesting Shapla, Shada Shapla, and Shapla Koli as potential symbols.”He added, “If Shapla Koli is allocated, the NCP will accept it. Faced with the party’s insistence and threat of street protests, the EC added four new symbols to the list on Thursday, including the Shapla Koli. We are continuing our fight within this framework and, in that context, we are taking the Shapla Koli and applying for it.”He added: “We will adopt Shapla Koli.

Body of another missing child floats up in Jamalpur river, raising toll to 5The bodies of all five children who went missing after entering the Jhinai River to bathe have now been recovered in Jamalpur's Madarganj Upazila. Locals found the body of the last remaining missing child from the river on Sunday morning, according to Sub-Inspector Ziaul Haque Zia of the Shyamganj Kalibari Police Investigation Centre. The latest victim, Boishakhi, was the daughter of farmer Hossain Mia from Charbhatiyani village in Madarganj upazila. The children disappeared on Friday after going into the river following a football game. Four of the bodies were found over the next two days by Fire Service divers.

Villagers have beaten three suspected cattle thieves to death in Gaibandha’s Gobindaganj Upazila. In a bid to save their lives, the suspected thieves jumped into a pond. The villagers pulled them out of the water and beat them severely, killing two of them on the spot. Informed of the matter, police reached the spot around 4:30am and recovered two bodies, said Bulbul. The bodies have been sent to Gaibandha General Hospital for post-mortem examination.

For the second day of the tourist season, not a single visitor have travelled to Saint Martin’s Island, leaving local traders disheartened after being granted permission to operate for three months. Although overnight stays are not allowed in November, small traders -- particularly restaurant owners, coconut sellers and three-wheeler drivers -- had been waiting anxiously for tourists to return. Ship owners said the journey from Cox’s Bazar to Saint Martin’s and back takes around 14 to 15 hours, while visitors are permitted to stay only for one hour. Salamat Ullah, owner of Daruchini Dwip Restaurant at the island’s jetty, said: “On the second day as well, no tourists came to Saint Martin’s. The death toll from a gunfight over local dominance in Nabinagar upazila of Brahmanbaria has risen to two. Earlier, Shipon, son of Abdul Monnaf alias Manek Dakat of Nurjahanpur village in the same union, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital on Saturday night. Two others, Nur Alam and Emran Master, were also shot in the incident and are currently receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, reports bdnews24.com. According to police and local sources, the violence erupted due to a dispute between Rifat of Thollakandi village and Shipon over local dominance and other issues. During the same period, associates of Manek Mia reportedly attacked his rival, Emran Master, who was also shot and sent to Dhaka for treatment.

Shafiqur Rahman has been re-elected as the Ameer, the designated chief, of the Jamaat-e-Islami, marking his return as the party’s top leader a year after the July Uprising. According to a party statement, he will serve a three-year term as chief. Assistant Secretary General ATM Masum announced the results of the leadership vote on Saturday night, reports bdnews24.com. “Based on the results, Shafiqur has been elected Ameer of the Jamaat-e-Islami for the 2026–2028 term with the highest number of votes,” the statement read. As per the party constitution, the Ameer is elected for a three-year term and allocates key positions -- such as deputy chief (Nayeeb-e-Ameer), secretary general, and assistant secretary generals -- in consultation with the central Majlish-e-Shura.

At least 25 people have been injured in a violent clash between two village groups in Faridpur’s Bhanga Upazila over a long-standing land dispute. The confrontation began around 4pm on Sunday in Gopinathpur village, with both sides wearing helmets and wielding makeshift shields, bamboo sticks and local weapons, said Bhanga Police chief Ashraf Hossain. While police arrived shortly after the clash began, officers reportedly failed to bring the situation under control for nearly two hours and had to retreat. Witnesses said the violence spread as villagers joined the fight, with both sides hurling broken bricks and using shields and other local weapons to fend off attacks. At least 25 people were injured, several of them seriously, and were taken to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex and Faridpur Medical College Hospital for treatment.

India has launched its first heavy communication satellite, CMS-03, from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh using its homegrown LVM3-M5 rocket, nicknamed “Bahubali”. It is the first time such a heavy satellite has been sent into orbit from Indian soil using an indigenously built rocket. On Dec 5, 2018, the GSAT-11 satellite, weighing 5,854 kg, was launched from Kourou in French Guiana using a French Ariane-5 VA-246 rocket. NDTV added that this launch marked a major milestone as the Bahubali rocket, standing 43.5m tall, successfully carried the heaviest satellite ever launched from India. The report noted that the multi-band communication satellite is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing connectivity and supporting India’s long-term space communication infrastructure.

Bangladesh has reported 1,162 new hospitalisations due to dengue in the past 24 hours with five fatalities. Of the latest deaths, three occurred in Dhaka South City Corporation, and one each in Dhaka North City Corporation and Rajshahi. The health directorate reported that the highest number of new hospitalisations was in the Dhaka North City Corporation, where 261 patients were admitted. The DGHS has maintained records of dengue-related hospitalisations and deaths since 2000. The highest annual hospitalisations occurred in 2023, with 321,179 cases, while the highest deaths in a single year were 1,705, also in 2023.
