On Friday, the Press Wing confirmed after fact-checking that there was no evidence to support these claims. A keyword search of multiple media outlets found reports of police using baton charges and sound grenades to disperse protesters, but no credible sources reported any fatalities. Police again used force around 1:15pm, firing sound grenades that pushed some protesters toward Shahbagh and others toward Banglamotor. Despite the use of force, the Press Wing confirmed that the claims of three deaths in front of Jamuna were false.

DHAKA, Feb 6, 2026 (BSS) – The interim government today issued a statement clarifying the circumstances surrounding the protest in front of Jamuna here demanding justice for Sharif Osman Hadi killing, saying that “no lethal weapon was used” to control the situation. Reiterating its unwavering commitment to ensure justice for the killing of Sharif Osman Hadi, the government urged all to show restraint and responsibility during the sensitive pre-election period. Despite an existing ban on demonstrations in and around the Jamuna, law enforcement agencies initially didn’t use any kind of force against the protesters, it added. “The government is clearly stating that law enforcement agencies did not fire any shots at this time,” it added. “The government clearly reiterates that it is firmly committed to hold the trial of Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi killing.

No firearms, bullets used to disperse gathering near Jamuna: DMPDHAKA, Feb 06, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) today said no firearms or bullets were used to disperse an illegal gathering near the state guesthouse Jamuna, the official residence of the Chief Adviser and its surroundings. The release added that the police used tear gas and sound grenades at one point to disperse the protesters. It also noted that some individuals are spreading false and misleading information on social media to misrepresent the incident. Acting entirely within legal procedures, the police dispersed the protesters without using any firearms or bullets. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police urged the public not to be misled by misinformation or propaganda regarding the incident.

JAKARTA, Feb 6, 2026 (BSSAFP) - The death toll from a landslide in Indonesia has climbed to 74, authorities said Friday, extending the search for missing people and bodies nearly two weeks since it began. Heavy rain triggered the landslide that tore through a mountain village in Java's West Bandung region on January 24, burying dozens of homes and displacing hundreds. The local search and rescue agency said 74 victims had been identified. "Weather conditions remain the main challenge, with thick fog and rain still covering the search area, significantly impacting visibility and stability in the area," said Ade. Around 50 houses were damaged and more than 160 people remain displaced, according to local authorities.

During the operation at the mouth of the Chhuliya canal, adjacent to the Sundarbans, the forest guards intercepted a trawler and a dinghy boat. Upon searching the vessels, the forest guards recovered 80 kilograms of crabs which had been concealed in baskets using special techniques. Forester Asaduzzaman said the detainees were illegally catching and transporting crabs from the Sundarbans in violation of the ongoing two-month ban on crab netting.
