JERUSALEM, Dec 22, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - Israeli bulldozers tore through a four-storey residential building in east Jerusalem on Monday, displacing scores of Palestinians in what activists said was the largest such demolition in the area this year. The Jerusalem municipality, which administers both west and east Jerusalem, has previously said demolitions are carried out to address illegal construction and to enable the development of infrastructure or green spaces. Activists, however, accuse Israeli authorities of frequently designating areas in east Jerusalem as national parks or open spaces to advance Israeli settlement interests. This year alone, around 100 east Jerusalem families have lost their homes," they added. Israel occupied east Jerusalem, including the Old City, in the 1967 Arab-Israeli war, and swiftly annexed the area.

RABAT, Dec 22, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - Morocco coach Walid Regragui said Sunday he would continue to be "very careful" with star man Achraf Hakimi at the Africa Cup of Nations as the Paris Saint-Germain full-back recovers from an ankle injury. Regragui suggested on the eve of the tournament's opening game against Comoros that Hakimi was fit, but in the end the Morocco captain played no part in Sunday's 2-0 win in Rabat. "We need Hakimi because he is the best player in Africa and one of the best in the world and no team can afford to be without their best player, but Mazraoui is a fantastic player," Regragui said. ADELAIDE, Australia, Dec 22, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - Coach Brendon McCullum concedes England got their preparations wrong heading into the Ashes, but believes they can salvage some pride in the final two Tests at Melbourne and Sydney. England had just one warm-up fixture in Australia, against their second-tier Lions side, and lost the opening Test in Perth inside two days. Like Perth, that Test was lost by eight wickets and McCullum bizarrely claimed they had "overprepared". Probably we go back to the preparation, that'll be something that gets questioned," McCullum told TNT Sports after the 82-run Adelaide defeat. The fourth Test starts in Melbourne on December 26 and England could freshen up the side.
