The nomination papers were formally submitted around 5 pm to the office of the Deputy Commissioner and District Returning Officer in Dinajpur. Mofazzal Hossain Dulal and General Secretary Bokhtiar Ahmed Kochi submitted the papers in the presence of party leaders and activists. District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Rafiqul Islam received the nomination papers. BNP district General Secretary Bokhtiar Ahmed Kochi expressed optimism that the people of Dinajpur would remain united and secure a decisive victory for Begum Khaleda Zia in the upcoming polls.

File PhotoDHAKA, Dec 28, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Bank (BB) today purchased US$115 million from three commercial banks through multiple auction methods as part of its ongoing strategy to curb the depreciation of the US dollar against the taka and revitalise the remittance and export sectors. According to central bank data, it bought dollars today at the rate of Tk 122.30. Accordingly, total purchases stood at $920.50 million in December 2025 and $3,046.50 million in FY 2025–26 to date.

The situation worsened further as the maximum temperature dropped again, with the difference between the maximum and minimum temperatures reducing to just two to four degrees Celsius, although the minimum temperature increased slightly today. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rangpur Meteorological Office meteorologist Md Mostafizar Rahman said the minimum temperatures marked a little rise at places while maximum temperatures marked further falls in the region today. The minimum temperature of 13 degrees Celsius was recorded at 9 am today against yesterday's 11.8 degrees and maximum of 16 degrees against yesterday's 17.5 degrees Celsius at 3 pm at Rangpur city. The intensity of biting cold became unbearable during the past two days following reduction of the gap between the minimum and maximum temperatures to the minimum in Rangpur like at most places in the sub-Himalayan region. Similar reports of disruption of normal life were received here today from Kurigram, Dinajpur, Thakurgaon, Panchagarh, Lalmonirhat, Gaibandha, Rangpur and Nilphamari districts in the region.

Photo : BSSRANGPUR, Dec 28, 2025 (BSS) - Inquilab Moncho's Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) unit and student leaders have staged a sit-in programme here demanding justice for the murder of Sharif Osman Hadi, a frontline fighter of the July uprising. The Inqilab Moncho leaders and activists and ordinary students took a stand at Shaheed Hadi Square (formerly known as the DC intersection) in Rangpur metropolis at 3 pm on Sunday. The participating student leaders from the programme demanded the immediate arrest of those involved in the murder of Hadi, including the mastermind. At that time, the protesters raised various slogans including 'Justice, justice, justice - we want justice for Hadi's murder', 'Who are you, who am I? The sit-in programme has been arranged in protest against the assassination of the Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, an aspiring candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency in the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Polls.

National Citizen Party (NCP) has deviated from its original political objective by joining an alliance led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, but there is no justification for her to resign from the party, said NCP Senior Joint Convener Samantha Sharmin on Sunday evening. In a Facebook post, Samantha said she learned from Jamaat’s press conference that the NCP had formally joined the Jamaat-led alliance of like-minded parties. Referring to the alliance formed on December 7 with NCP, Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party) and Bangladesh Rashtro Songskar Andolan, Samantha said the Rashtro Songskar Andolan has already accused the NCP of breaching the agreement. The Rashtro Songskar Andolan has alleged that NCP violated the agreement. Even if some individuals have deviated, as a party NCP remained in the right position,” she wrote.

DHAKA, Dec 28, 2025 (BSS) – Freedom Fighter (FF) Md Habibur Rahman, also known as Shahjahan Paik, father of Mozammel Haque Chanchal, special correspondent of Daily Jugantar, has passed away. Habibur Rahman is survived by his wife, three sons, a daughter, and numerous relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death. His first Namaz-e-Janaza was held at Syedbosta village under Damuddya Upazila in Shariatpur district, after which he was laid to rest in the family graveyard. Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) president Abu Saleh Akan and general secretary Mainul Hasan Sohel expressed deep shock and sorrow over the death of FF Habibur Rahman. In a message of condolence, they prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family.

Health officials on Sunday said they recorded 114 fresh cases of dengue onslaughts in the past 24 hours. "We recorded 114 fresh cases of dengue onslaughts in 24 hours ending at 8 am today," a spokesman of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said. "Out of the 114 fresh cases, 10 were hospitalised in Barishal division, 40 in Chittagong division, four in Dhaka division excluding capital, 16 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and 25 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas, 14 in Khulna division, three in Mymensingh division and two in Sylhet division, a Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) statement said. Since the start of the dengue onslaughts Bangladesh this year witnessed so far 412 deaths while the disease inflicted 102,562. The dengue last year claimed 575 lives and inflicted 1,01,214 people in the country.
