The Black Caps chase down 107 on the final day of a rain-interrupted series opener in Bengaluru to clinch their first Test win in India since 1988New Zealand secured an eight-wicket win for their first test victory in India since 1988 as the Black Caps chased down 107 and humbled the home side early on the final day of the rain-interrupted series opener on Sunday. After dismissing India for their worst home total of 46 and making 402 in reply, New Zealand bowled out Rohit Sharma's side for 462 in the second innings on Saturday to lay the platform for a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Rachin Ravindra and Will Young remained calm under pressure after the loss of two early wickets to get the job done, earning New Zealand only their third win on Indian soil in 38 attempts going back to 1955. Bumrah and fellow pace bowler Mohammed Siraj made life hell for the New Zealand batsmen early in the day, as India looked to do what no team have done in test history and win a match after conceding a first-innings lead of more than 350 runs. The wicket appeared to turn placid after that dismissal as New Zealand cruised to a famous victory.

SEOUL, Oct 20, 2024 (BSS/AFP) - North Korea's top diplomat on Sunday criticised a new sanctions monitoring team led by the United States as "unlawful and illegitimate", warning countries involved in the entity would face a "dear price". The 11-member team was named earlier this month after Russia in March vetoed the renewal of a panel of UN experts monitoring international sanctions on North Korea, imposed for its banned nuclear and weapons programmes. Since the Russian veto, South Korea and its allies have worked to apply different methods to monitor sanctions, leading to the formation of the new group -- which includes the United States and Japan. Such a monitoring mechanism is "utterly unlawful and illegitimate", North Korea's Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui said in a statement carried by the official Korean Central News Agency on Sunday. The criticism comes on the heels of a report by the South's spy agency that North Korea had sent a "large-scale" troop deployment to support Moscow's war in Ukraine, with 1,500 special forces already training in Russia.

Jittering donkey carts have long been essential for aftermarket transport from southern Karachi's wholesale bazaars, nested in narrow streets preventing regular vehicles from accessing their trove of wares. But the 69-year-old said they're no longer a desired commodity at an animal market held each Sunday. But most donkey carts are empty with their owners and animals idle. One Karachi animal welfare activist who asked to remain anonymous said increasingly long journeys and poor road conditions are knackering the animals. "Due to a lack of resources, donkey owners use rope or a piece of cloth in place of proper harnesses leading to severe chaffing and skin wounds," she said.
