Re: “University Has Reportedly Invited Ann Coulter ’84 Back to Campus” (news, March 10)To the Editor:I had the privilege of visiting Cornell this week to deliver a lecture in the Bowers CIS Distinguished Speaker Series on Free Expression. A few audience members disagreed with some of my arguments, but none were disruptive, and we had thought-provoking conversations afterward. It was a pleasure to meet many Cornell faculty and students who are deeply thinking about the role of freedom of expression on campus. That is why I was disappointed to read the Daily Sun’s editorial opposing the university administration’s decision to invite Ann Coulter to speak, more than a year after she had been shouted off the stage at Cornell. Attend Coulter’s speech.

Consequently, the flow of traffic into Dhaka through Gabtoli was completely halted from 6am-9:30am on Thursday. The effects of the disruption on the key thoroughfare rippled across the city, resulting in snarl-ups stretching all the way to Asad Gate. That means our student journalists have never and will never take marching orders from the administration or pressure groups. In recent years, the job of student journalists has become harder, but we’ve risen to the occasion. Feel free to personally email me at [email protected] with any information you think the public has a right to know about. I feel that match has been struck with the invitation of Ann Coulter ’84. I am shocked that the invitation came from within the administration and that you thought it was a great idea. Other than being a Cornell alum and a famous controversialist, Coulter contributes nothing civil or thoughtful to the public discourse. She works with hate speech. Uninvite Ann Coulter and make it clear that you do not consider hate speech to be what this campus needs right now.

There would also be bonus shares for conferences and schools based on participation and advancing in the playoff. The current CFP contract calls for the Power Five conferences, including the Pac-12, to receive about $79 million per year.

Nine drown in Gabon after exceptionally high tidesLIBREVILLE, March 14, 2024 (BSS/AFP) - At least nine people, including four teenagers, drowned in Gabon following exceptionally high sea tides, the government said Wednesday. The drownings were caused by an "increase in the tides linked to climate change", it added. High tide in Libreville usually varies between 1.60 and 1.80 metres, but since Sunday, the water levels have exceeded 2.50 metres (8 feet), the marine weather service said Tuesday. The Libreville coastline is a popular spot for visitors as temperatures rise with the approach of the spring equinox, which brings higher tides. Despite the warnings, the Leon MBA High School beach, where some of the bodies were found, remained open and unmonitored on Wednesday afternoon, an AFP journalist saw.
