Shapiro and Franks also debated if the administration reacted responsibly to protesters throughout Coulter’s repeated visits to Cornell. “We have to understand that certain actions are not speech,” Shapiro said. “The people who want to put them in harm’s way — those people are not on the side of free speech, and they are not on the right side of history.”

A pregnant woman and her son have died after a storm caused a tree to crash into their house in Kishoreganj’s Karimganj Upazila. The incident occurred around midnight on Saturday in Niamatpur village, according to Mizanur Rahman, chief of Karimganj Police Station. The dead were identified as Ruptara Begum, 45, and her son Taijul, 5. “Ruptara and her son Taijul were sleeping after dinner in their tin home,” OC Mizanur said. The bodies of the dead were buried in the afternoon and an unnatural death case was filed at the police station, OC Mizanur said.

Bangladesh Bank has dissolved the board of directors of National Bank around four and a half months after reforming it. "The government provided modern agricultural machineries to farmers to increase agricultural output and minimize costs of production," he told the House today, while responding to a question from Jatiya Party member Md Mujibul Hoque. The minister said modern agricultural machineries will help farmers to mitigate water crisis in Haor areas during the crop harvesting period, besides, farmers will be able to bring their crops at the warehouse within a short time. He said that the agriculture ministry's budget maintained a sector "Agriculture Rehabilitation Assistance" for continuing incentive activities and encourage the marginal and small farmers for yielding various crops side by side the agriculture rehabilitation activities.

The three-day warning starting on Sunday afternoon said rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary wind gusts are likely to occur at places over all the eight divisions. The southwestern district reported record temperatures during the 35-day heatwave – the longest on record. DHAKA, May 5, 2024 (BSS) - Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) todayarrested five transport extortionists from Demra and south Keraniganj areasin the city. Al Amin, 22, said MJ Sohel, assistantsuperintendent of police (ASP) and assistant director (Media) of RAB-10. Acting on a tip-off, a team of the RAB-10 conducted separate drives in Demraand south Keraniganj areas in the capital and nabbed them around 11.30 am, headded. ASP Sohel further said that the extortionists were illegally collecting moneyfrom various transports including inter-district trucks, covered-vans,lorries and CNG-run auto-rickshaws. The RAB also recovered extortion money worth Taka 7,200 and four woodensticks from their possession, he said, adding: "Necessary legal action hasbeen taken against them and they have been handed over to respective policestations."

Bangladesh Navy deployed a helicopter in the afternoon to assist in dousing the flames with water. According to the Forest Department, five units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence were working to extinguish the fire by sprinkling water from Sunday morning. Local villagers were also helping the Forest Department to put out the fire. Dipankar Bar, a spokesman for the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, confirmed that the fire was controlled by the forest department around 1pm, though efforts were ongoing. Conservator of Forest Mihir Kumar Dey of the Khulna office of the Forest Department and Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner Khalid Hossain were among top officials who visited the site.
