Assailants on motorbikes have attacked the car of Hasnat Abdullah in Gazipur while the National Citizen Party (NCP) leader was travelling in it, injuring him in the process. Two Bangladesh-origin US nationals were arrested in Mizoram’s Lengpui airport and deported from the state capital Aizawl over their plans to meet militants of the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNA/F), NDTV reports. Intelligence reports indicated four US nationals would be coming to Aizawl using tourist visas on May 2, NDTV quoted sources on Saturday. After reaching Aizawl, they planned to meet KNA/F leaders including Nathan Lawncheo Bawm, it added. At least two Bangladesh-origin US nationals had played a key role in developing the KNA/F in CHT during its nascent stage, it added. A total of 35 Rohingya, including women and children, have been detained in Chattogram after fleeing Bhasan Char. They claimed “poor living conditions and lack of livelihood opportunities” in Bhasan Char drove them to leave the island and attempt to travel to Ukhiya via Chattogram with the help of brokers.
