3 sentenced to death, 5 to life in prison for Munshiganj triple murderA Dhaka court has sentenced three people to death and five others to life in prison over the killings of three people during an arbitration meeting in Munshiganj in 2021. Sourav Prodhan, Rony Bepari and Shihab Prodhan were the suspects sentenced to death. Shakib Prodhan, Shameem Prodhan, Anik Bepari, Raihan, and Choto Jahangir were sentenced to life in prison. According to the case dossier, there was a scuffle between two groups in the North Islampur area of Munshiganj on Mar 24, 2021. During the meeting, three people from one side – Md Emon Hossain, 22, Md Shakib Hossain, 19, and Mintu Prodhan, 40 – were stabbed to death by Sourav, Shihab, and Shameem’s side.

Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud bin Harun has said APM Terminals, a subsidiary of Danish shipping and logistics company AP Moller-Maersk, will invest $800 million in the proposed terminal at Chattogram Port’s Laldiar Char. Visiting the Laldia project area on Thursday, he spoke about multiple issues, including foreign investment in the port, reports bdnews24.com. A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of a flat in Dubai belonging to Tahsin Raisa Binte Benazir, daughter of former inspector general of police Benazir Ahmed, and the freezing of two accounts in her name. The ACC filed four cases against Benazir, his wife and two daughters on Dec 15 bringing charges of acquiring illicit assets worth Tk 740 million against them. The case alleges that Benazir acquired wealth worth Tk 94.4 million outside his known sources of income and concealed information about assets worth Tk 26.2 million. His wife Zeeshan Mirza allegedly acquired wealth beyond means worth Tk 316.9 million and concealed information about assets worth Tk 161 million. Their eldest daughter Farheen Rishta Binte Benazir and her younger sister Raisa allegedly acquired illicit assets worth Tk 87.5 million and Tk 55.9 million, respectively.

Five people have been killed and six others have been injured after a bus rammed an ambulance carrying a patient on the Dhaka-Mawa Highway in Munshiganj’s Sirajdikhan. The accident occurred in the Upazila’s Neemtala area around 12:30pm on Thursday, according to Hansara Highway Police Outpost chief Abdul Quader Zilani. The body of a woman is at the police outpost and the rest of the injured were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, he said. Mohammad Faruk, officer-in-charge of the DMCH Police Outpost, said: “The bodies of four people killed in an accident on the expressway are at the hospital. Six other people injured in the accident are receiving treatment.”

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has conducted raids in 35 offices of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) simultaneously to put an end to the bribery business and rings of middlemen. The raid was aimed at stopping corruption in the process of issuing driving license and vehicle fitness certificate. The ACC enforcement unit conducted the raids from morning to evening on Tuesday, according to its Deputy Director Aktarul Islam.
