A CNG-powered autorickshaw driver has been shot dead in Dhaka’s Jurain. The man, identified only as Bappa, 30, was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 7pm on Monday with a gunshot wound to the waist, where doctors declared him dead. Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the hospital’s police outpost, confirmed the incident. Kadamtali Police chief Md Ayub said a man died after being shot in an alley of Jurain, but no information has yet been received about his murderers and the motive. Wari Division Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Harun Or Rashid said the victim had multiple drug-related cases against him.

Fires have broken out at five locations in Gazipur within five hours, causing extensive damage to property, according to the Fire Service. Gazipur Fire Service Deputy Director Mohammad Mamun said crews contained the fires at all five sites, with no casualties reported. Witnesses and the Fire Service said the first fire started around 5am at a cotton warehouse in Pubail Majukhan. Four units from the Kaliakair station arrived at the scene and brought the flames under control after one and a half hours. Dotex Merchandise, a Kolkata-based shell entity, allegedly routed Rs 10 million to Young Indian. The Election Commission has resumed the registration of expatriate Bangladeshi voters in seven countries, including Saudi Arabia and Malaysia, after a temporary suspension earlier this week. Registration restarted at 3:15pm on Saturday, said Salim Ahmad Khan, team leader of the Out of Country Voting System and Implementation (OCV-SDI) project. Following the launch, region-wise global registration began sequentially, with the system made accessible from any country starting early Thursday. The United States has recorded the highest number of registrants --17,500 – followed by South Korea, Canada, Australia, Singapore and Japan. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has opened an inquiry into allegations that Transcom Group Chief Executive Officer Simeen Rahman paid Tk 1 billion in bribes to Sheikh Hasina to suppress several cases lodged against her. In the first week of this month, the ACC assigned one of its deputy directors as the inquiry officer, according to an official familiar with the move. The ACC says Simeen allegedly offered Tk 1 billion to Hasina to steer clear of multiple cases against her, including charges of murder, share fraud and deception. A senior ACC official said the inquiry is looking into the involvement of individuals and institutions named in the complaint. The appointment letter instructed the inquiry officer to submit a report in due course.

A Bangladeshi migrant has died in the United Arab Emirates, 10 days after being critically injured in a road accident while delivering food. “A truck hit the back of Rubel’s motorcycle and that of another Egyptian rider from a different delivery company. The Egyptian rider died at the scene, and Rubel was taken to the hospital with severe injuries.”Police later seized the truck and arrested the driver. Rubel had been living in the UAE for the past five years. This initiative is being implemented using the Bank Resolution Ordinance.It is expected that the new bank will start its journey next week. Ahsan H. Mansur said in the event that the new bank will have a paid-up capital of Tk 35,000 crore. Administrators are working to set a uniform salary scale for the same positions across all banks to reduce operational expenses.The government is forming the new "Sammilito Islami Bank" to take over these five banks. An initiative to send transshipment goods to Bhutan via Bangladesh’s road network on a trial basis has stalled at Burimari Land Port. The container from Chattogram arrived at Burimari Land Port on Nov 28.
