The government has lowered the interest rates on all types of National Savings Certificates for the second half of 2025. The government has decided to revise the interest rate on savings certificates every six months. One interest rate is set for investing Tk 750,000 in savings certificates individually or jointly. Interest rates are also determined every three months for profit-based savings certificates, family savings certificates and post office savings accounts. Family savings certificates are the most popular savings scheme.

Currently, expatriate Bangladeshis, election officials, government employees posted outside their home constituencies, and inmates are allowed to vote by postal ballot. Despite being legally in place, the postal ballot system has never gained popularity or proven to be fully effective. Nearly four years after the circular was published, the final results of the 44th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) exams have been released, with 1,690 candidates declared successful. In a media statement, the Public Service Commission (PSC) published the results on Monday night. The PSC had earlier announced in its roadmap covering five BCS examinations that the results would be published on Jun 30 -- a deadline that has been met with the 44th BCS results. Out of 11,732 candidates who passed the written test, 3,930 candidates had already faced the viva board. The final results followed the completion of the new viva exams.

The suspension of Tawfiq Islam Nabil, a student of the 50th batch from the Academic Year 2020–21, was announced in a notice posted on the university’s official Facebook page on Monday. Alongside the suspension, the university formed a probe committee led by Prof Shamsul Alam, acting dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, under the same section of the disciplinary ordinance. On Saturday, a screenshot of a Facebook comment allegedly made by Nabil began circulating widely on the platform. Later that night, angry students took out a protest march demanding disciplinary action against Nabil.

Finance Advisor Salehuddin Ahmed has said the interim government is not involved in the Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC) investigation into six National Board of Revenue (NBR) officials, five of whom were actively involved in recent protests. The NBR officials and employees have been protesting since May against a government ordinance that split the agency into two separate divisions -- Revenue Administration and Revenue Policy. Starting Saturday, the NBR officials launched a “complete shutdown” programme. Under the banner of NBR Reform Unity Council, their movement stalled NBR operations, including import-export services. After a day of intense developments, the NBR officials called off their protest programme, which brought relief.

At least 12 workers have been killed and many others injured after a blast at an industrial unit in India’s Telangana, India Today has reported. The blast occurred on Monday morning, triggering a massive fire within the factory premises and prompting emergency response teams to rush to the site, the report added.
