Police have arrested a Jamaat-e-Islami leader for allegedly storming into Keshabpur Police Station in Jashore and threatening the investigating officer in a case involving his cousin. He was picked up in Jashore town on Wednesday morning and later sent to jail on a court order, said the station chief (OC) Anwar Hossain. The arrestee, Oziur Rahman, is the president of Jamaat’s Keshabpur Upazila Professional Council and a former president of Islami Chhatra Shibir’s Jashore (East) district unit. According to him, Oziur became aggressive after his cousin, Shahidul Islam, was made a suspect in a case filed by a local resident. Oziur allegedly entered the station, used abusive language, and issued threats over the investigation.

A Biman Bangladesh Airlines Boeing 737 aircraft bound for Bangkok has been forced to return to Dhaka from Myanmar airspace an hour after takeoff. It marks the fifth technical incident involving a Biman Boeing aircraft in just 20 days. However, after detecting excessive engine vibration mid-air, the pilot decided to turn back and landed safely in Dhaka. The stranded passengers were later flown to Bangkok at 6:00pm on a separate Boeing 777 aircraft. Family of 7 that perished in Noakhali car crash buried togetherSeven members of the same family have been buried after they died in a microbus crash in Begumganj, Noakhali. The funeral prayers were held on Wednesday afternoon following the Asr prayer, and the victims were buried together at a graveyard in Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila. The dead have been identified as Ms Poizunnesa, 80, Khurshida Begum, 55, Kabita Begum, 30, Labani Begum, 30, Reshmi, 10, Mim, 2, and Lamia, 9. The 11-member family was returning home from the airport with their expat relative Bahar Uddin when the microbus veered out of control.

The Jatiya Ganatantrik Party has announced a plan to besiege the High Commission of India on Wednesday, demanding the extradition of deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled to the country during the July Uprising last year. JAGPA Vice-President Rashed Pradhan announced the programme at a press conference on Tuesday. He said, “The Indian government has been providing shelter to the murderer Hasina with state-level status for one year. “Hasina must be returned, and the Indian aggression must stop. The “July Proclamation” is set to be unveiled at Dhaka’s Manik Mia Avenue on the afternoon of Aug 5, marking the fall of the 15-and-a-half-year-long rule of the Awami League government. The proclamation will be read out at 5pm on that day, according to a post on the chief advisor’s Facebook page made on Sunday.
