India bans import of more jute goods via land portsIndia has banned the import of several more jute goods from Bangladesh through land ports, with the order taking immediate effect. In the new order issued by India’s Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), the jute products added to the land port restriction list include jute sacks and fabrics, fibre-based raw materials, yarn, rope, sacks, and bags. Earlier, on Jun 27, the DGFT had imposed restrictions on nine products, including multiple types of woven fabrics, along with raw jute fibre and jute yarn (including kenaf, hemp, and ramie). At the time, the DGFT had said the ban would not apply to goods transiting through India to Nepal and Bhutan. These jute goods from Bangladesh, however, could not be exported to India via Nepal or Bhutan.

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) says a member of the Arakan Army, an armed insurgent group in Myanmar, has fled a camp in Myanmar’s conflict-torn Rakhine State and surrendered to the force with heavy weapons. A man has died amid a drug trade conflict at Geneva Camp, a camp for “stranded Pakistanis” in the capital’s Mohammadpur. The Election Commission (EC) will reintroduce the “No” vote option for constituencies that will have only one candidate, aiming to end the practice of uncontested public representatives. Under the proposed amendment to the Representation of the People Order (RPO), a set of electoral rules, sole candidates must compete against a “No” vote, Election Commissioner Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah said on Monday. If “No” wins, the seat will remain vacant until a new poll is held, he said after a meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin. The “No” vote, once available in all constituencies in 2008, was later abolished. According to flight tracking service Flightradar24, the Dash-8 Q400 twin turboprop aircraft took off from Dhaka for Chattogram at 2:34pm on Monday. The flight returned to Shahjalal International Airport at 2:55pm after the issue was detected. On Saturday morning, another one of Biman's Boeing aircraft experienced a technical issue after landing at Singapore’s Changi Airport from Dhaka. Replacement parts were sent on another Biman flight and the aircraft was repaired, returning to Bangladesh after a 30-hour delay. The latest incidents come amid plans to purchase 25 new Boeing aircraft for Biman’sfleet.

Police recover two bodies from car in basement of Mouchak medical collegePolice recovered two bodies from inside a car parked in the basement of Sirajul Islam Medical College in Dhaka’s Mouchak. They found the bodies inside a white private car and alerted Ramna Police Station, according to Masud Alam, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Ramna Division. After parking the vehicle, the driver left the premises, and the car remained there overnight. By Monday noon, security personnel became suspicious, seeing people inside the car but getting no response when they knocked on the windows, prompting them to reach out to police. Of the two deceased, one of the bodies was found in the driver’s seat and the other was in the back seat.

Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has arrived in Malaysia’s capital Kuala Lumpur on a three-day visit aimed at “deepening” bilateral relations.
