A leading global risk consultancy says that despite the impacts of the war in Ukraine, global inflation, climate and security challenges, Africa continues to find resilience. In most African countries, natural capital accounts for between 30% to 50% of their overall wealth. Researchers say North African countries are positioning themselves as manufacturing destinations as Western countries are looking to disengage from China. The head of Africa Macro at Oxford Economics Africa, Jacque Nel, said African economies will face challenges in an increasingly competitive global environment. ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Nearly 100 migrants were safely evacuated Wednesday from a yacht reported to be in difficulty off the southwestern coast of Greece, authorities said. The coast guard said in a statement that the yacht carrying 93 people was located about 40 nautical miles (46 miles, 74 kilometers) west of the small town of Pylos. Another 87 people were picked up by two passing tanker ships and transported to Kalamata escorted by coast guard patrol vessels, the statement said. Last week, 40 survivors filed a lawsuit in Greece against “all parties responsible,” saying Greek authorities failed to rescue the passengers before the vessel capsized. The Greek coast guard said that a total of 115 migrants were rescued from three small boats off the eastern Aegean Sea island of Lesbos on Wednesday, and another 24 people off the island of Samos.

The US$3.4 million equity investment from IFC, which marks IFC’s first investment into Africa’s creative sector, will allow to scale its operations and onboard about 100,000 additional artisans from across Africa by 2030. Global automotive manufacturing company Stellantis intends to develop a greenfield manufacturing facility in Coega in South Africa. The automotive manufacturing plant is planned for completion by the end of 2025 and will be built in the Coega special economic zone situated near Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. New automotive plant aims for speedy delivery in Coega SEZMinister Patel advised that South Africa currently has the capacity to produce close to 700,000 vehicles annually.
