With the confrontation drawing in the assistant referees and several security staff, the North Korean coach also ran to his players to try to defuse the situation. The North Korean players were earlier furious when Lutfullin awarded a penalty to Japan after goalkeeper Kang Juh Yok charged out and clipped the feet of Jun Nishikawa with an outstretched arm. Japan coach Go Oiwa declined to comment on the incident when asked. Air strikes in northern Iraq destroy Kurdish targets after the bombing in the capital, says the Turkish interior ministry. Turkey says its warplanes have carried out raids on Kurdish targets in northern Iraq following a suicide attack on a government building in capital Ankara. A Turkish interior ministry statement on Sunday said some 20 targets of the banned Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) group were “destroyed” in the aerial operation, including caves, shelters and depots. The strikes came hours after a suicide bomber detonated an explosive device near an entrance of the interior ministry building in Ankara, injuring two police officers. Al Jazeera’s Sinem Koseoglu, reporting from Istanbul, said security was tightened around the parliament and interior ministry buildings after the attack.

Tuareg rebels in northern Mali claim to have seized another Malian army base, the fourth since August. The Malian army said Sunday it was involved in battles with separatist rebels in north of the country. It comes as Tuareg rebels claimed to have seized another military base from the military. There has been 'intense fighting' against 'terrorists' in the Bamba area, which separatist rebels claim to have taken control of, according to army reports on social media. The Malian army has also come under attack from al-Qaeda and Islamic State-linked insurgents.

The Malian army said on Sunday that new fighting had broken out in the north between the military and armed rebel groups, the latest in a series of attacks on the army in the troubled West African country. Tuareg-dominated separatist groups said on Saturday that they had inflicted heavy losses on the Malian military in an attack in the centre of the country, claiming to have killed 81 soldiers. Since the end of August, the north of Mali has seen a resumption of hostilities by the CMA and an intensification of jihadist attacks against the Malian army. Mali's junta, which seized power in 2020, faces a multitude of security challenges throughout the poor and landlocked country.

But nearly all of the restrictions approved by the legislature this year, including a near-ban after 12 weeks of pregnancy, aren’t being specifically challenged and remain intact. The litigation doesn’t directly seek to topple the crux of the abortion law enacted in May after GOP legislators overrode Democratic Gov. North Carolina had a ban on most abortions after 20 weeks before July 1, when the law scaled it back to 12 weeks. A spokesperson for Senate leader Phil Berger, one of the legislative defendants, said Saturday that Eagles’ order was still being reviewed.

And a South African campaigner for less expensive treatment has called on other drugs companies to follow J&J's example. Johnson & Johnson announced on September 29 that it will no longer enforce patents for the drug bedaquiline, which it sells as SIRTURO, in 134 low- and middle-income countries. J&J said in its announcement that bedaquiline was introduced in 2012 "after years of focused investments." She said drugs companies' practice of enforcing their patents and their pricing levels "has no place in public health."

Italy and war-torn Libya on Saturday resumed commercial flights for the first time in a decade, authorities in the Libyan capital said. Flight MT522, operated by the Libyan carrier Medsky Airways, departed Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli for Rome's Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport, according to Libyan airport authorities. There will be a round-trip flight between the Libyan and Italian capitals on Saturdays and Wednesdays, according to the Mitiga airport announcement. The government of Prime Minister Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah in Tripoli lauded the resumed flights, posting photos on social media that showed passengers boarding the flight and officials celebrating. Italian and Libyan authorities agreed that one airline company from each country would operate flights between the two capitals.

According to the UAE’s minister for climate change and the environment, Mariam Almheiri, her country’s experience in developing green energy and industry projects puts it in a strong position to contribute to Africa’s energy transition. In a recent interview, Almheiri stressed that the UAE is “ready with money and with technology” to play its part in helping Africa with its transformation. The planned $4.5 billion investment into African green energy is spearheaded by four entities – the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, Etihad Credit Insurance, Masdar, and AMEA Power – all of which have close ties with the UAE government. Asked about the reasons for the UAE’s enthusiasm for supporting the energy transition in Africa, Almheiri says that the continent “is so close to the UAE. Noting that rainfall is becoming less reliable and droughts more frequent, Almheiri says that ensuring that “things get fixed” is vital to “keep Africa intact” and “stop the migration routes.”
