The autonomy plan “has been on the table since 2007. The call for the resumption of round tables between all parties would unsettle Algeria which has backtracked from the political process and vowed not to take part again. Morocco insists on the participation of Algiers in the UN political process in view of its key role in perpetuating the conflict through its Polisario proxies. Morocco welcomed the UN Security Council resolution which reiterated the serious and credible character of the autonomy plan. The resolution also echoes the concerns of the UN Secretary General who complained to the security council of Polisario’s obstacles to MINURSIO resupply missions.

According to several sources within the mission, the United Nations mission in Mali is currently in the process of leaving its camp in Kidal, located in the north of the country. Kidal is a strategically important city and a major focal point in the ongoing battle between the central government and separatist armed groups who have resumed hostilities against it. “We began our departure from Kidal this Tuesday morning,” a mission official on the ground informed the AFP, specifying that the evacuation is being conducted via road. These armed groups, which had previously reached a ceasefire and peace agreement with the government in 2014 and 2015, have recently resumed hostilities in light of the announced departure of the UN mission, known as MINUSMA. The two officials expressed their shared determination to promote security cooperation between the two countries and exchanged views on several issues, including the fight against terrorism, extremism, and illegal immigration. The North Korean flag flutters at the North Korea consular office in Dandong, Liaoning province, China April 20, 2021. Both Angola and Uganda have forged friendly ties with North Korea since the 1970s, maintaining military cooperation and providing rare sources of foreign currency such as statue-building projects. Seoul's unification ministry, which handles inter-Korean affairs, said the pullout reflected the impact of international sanctions aimed at curbing funding for the North's nuclear and missile programs. "This can be a sign of North Korea's difficult economic situation, where it is difficult to maintain even minimal diplomatic relations with traditionally friendly countries." Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper reported last week, citing unnamed sources, that North Korea was planning to shut down at least 10 diplomatic missions, including a consulate in Hong Kong, largely because of economic difficulties.
