Regulations to raise the energy efficiency of private rented homes come into force this spring. From April 1, landlords starting new tenancies will need to ensure the property they are letting achieves minimum energy-efficiency standards. Properties rated F or G will be in breach of the regulations and subject to penalties of up to £4,000. On the face of it, this is good news for tenants of the 280,000 privately rented homes in the F and G brackets in England and Wales.
