Fringe review: The Wait

The Wait• 3.5 stars out of 5• Stage 9, Telus Phone MuseumWe spend a good part of our lives waiting for something, and Maria Colonescu’s The Wait takes place during three common times of waiting — in a line, when someone’s late and outside a delivery room. The first of the three virtually unrelated scenes nicely captures the awkwardness of strangers making conversation while waiting to buy concert tickets, coming with a good opening exchange. “Is this the end of the line?” asks Anthony (Alex D. Mackie)“Metaphorically?” replies Frankie (Samantha O’Connor). While the two actors are initially too shouty, by the end they calm to a quieter, more effective tone and a good closing line. It doesn’t provide any massive new insights into life, but this play is worth The Wait.
