The occasion today, February 11, 2017 was colorful when the military and the paramilitary in their unique and usual uniforms paraded the principle streets of Monrovia in observing of Liberia’s 60th historic Armed Forces Day anniversary as thousands queued out to watch their splendid military performances befitting this day. The Barclay Training Center (BTC) the home of the Liberian Armed Forces was over overwhelmed as early as 7am this morning with hundreds of government officials including the Commander In Chief of the Armed Forces, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to witness this occasion. Following series of military performances backed with colorful parades at the BTC to thrill observers and well-wishers, the former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo served as this year’s national orator for Armed Forces Day celebration, the theme of this year’s celebration is, “The AFL Supporting and Defending Our Democratic Transition.”This year’s Armed Forces Day celebration was indeed unique as its observance is believed to be the final of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s administration as her tenure ends in October following the 2017 general and presidential election.
