In Washington this week I was briefing the staffers accompanying a congressional delegation that is heading for London to catch up on the latest news about Brexit. Those who believe that the Atlantic is narrower than the Channel will cheer their arrival. Britain’s escape from European bondage surely heralds stronger transatlantic trade and security ties. The US-Irish lobby, largely dormant since peace broke out in Ulster, is stirring. It is easy to forget what a headache it used to be for the British government.
